Found October 19, 2011 on Pirates Prospects: Yardbarker Blogger Network

Today marked the first day in the two week Arizona Fall League season that Robbie Grossman had a day off.  Grossman had started in every game for the Mesa Solar Sox, but was given an off-day today.  Jarek Cunningham was also given an off-day today, and that would have normally meant a lineup without any Pirates prospects for the first time this season.  That wasn’t the case, as Brock Holt made his 2011 Arizona Fall League debut, playing second base (where Cunningham has been playing).

Holt was scheduled to play in the AFL, but missed time at the start of the season with a hamstring injury.  Unlike Grossman and Cunningham, Holt has seen upper level pitching, having spent the entire 2011 season in Altoona.  In his AFL debut he went 1-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout.

None of the Pirates’ pitching prospects threw today, which made Holt’s debut the only Pirates’ related item.  Mesa plays tomorrow at 3:35 PM EST, and Gerrit Cole is scheduled to make his second AFL start, taking on Scottsdale.
