New York Mets starter R.A. Dickey turned in a scoreless inning against the American League in last night’s All-Star game.  The National League won in convincing fashion, 8-0, and will now have home field advantage during the 2012 World Series, a reward that will hopefully impact the Mets down the road.

The 37-year-old Dickey had the following to say after his first All-Star game appearance:

i know i didn’t get the start for the all star game, but i did have a 7 year old tell me i had a sick knuckleball. so i got that going for me July 10, 2012 1:16 am via webReplyRetweetFavorite @RADickey43 R.A. Dickey

I love the fact that R.A. tweeted to his fans right after exiting the game, but I love his post-game comments even more:

Dickey said Ruiz called 2-strike fastball to Trumbo but used knuckler for K “I would have felt bad if I struck somebody out with a fastball” about 10 hours ago via TweetDeckReplyRetweetFavorite @DPLennon David Lennon

Before Dickey and the Mets get back to business, the pitcher has one more stop to make Wednesday night, when he’ll be a guest on the David Letterman show.  The show airs on CBS at 11:30 p.m. and it might be worth tuning in since the knuckleballer is coming prepared!

flying back to new york tomorrow to be on david letterman. I’m bringing a mask and thole’s glove in case he wants to catch a few. Fun!! about 7 hours ago via webReplyRetweetFavorite @RADickey43 R.A. Dickey

Poor Dave, I don’t think he knows what he’s in for, but I’d love to see this go down.  Perhaps Letterman should have checked with Phillies All-Star catcher Carlos Ruiz before agreeing to this…..on second thought, maybe not.

Ruiz dropped three of Dickey’s eight warm-ups. He’s taking Thole’s advice, positioning his crouch to face first base. about 11 hours ago via TweetDeckReplyRetweetFavorite @AnthonyDiComo Anthony DiComo
