After falling yesterday 6-2 on the 100th Anniversary of Fenway Park, the Boston Red Sox look to get back on the winning side of things in the second game of a three-game set with their AL East rivals, the New York Yankees. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. and the game will be broadcast to 91% of the country on FOX. If you can't catch the television broadcast, you can always listen to it on the Red Sox radio network. Felix Doubront looks to keep his pitch count under control in his third start of 2012. In his previous two starts, Doubront has no record with a 5.40 ERA (6 ER/10 IP). He made three appearances out of the bullpen last year against the Yankees and had no record with a 4.91 ERA (2 ER/3.2 IP). Overall in his career, Doubront has made four appearances against the Yankees and has no record with a 3.86 ERA (2 ER/4.2 IP). Freddy Garcia also makes his third start of the season this afternoon. In his previous two starts, Garcia is 0-1 with a 6.97 ERA (8 ER/10.1...

Felix Doubront's Shutdown of Yankees Shouldn't Be Forgotten After Loss

Lost in the carnage that was Saturday's 15-9 implosion against the Yankees was a fine performance for the Red Sox by No. 4 starter Felix Doubront. Doubront wasn't a favorite for the rotation going into spring training, but he wooed the Red Sox management enough to get himself a spot. Now, three cycles through the starters into the season, he may have had one of the best performances...

Garcia to be skipped?

From George A. King III: Joe Girardi has his rotation set through Friday night against the Tigers at Yankee Stadium. What the Yankees manager doesn’t have — at least publicly — is a starter for Saturday. Since last night’s game against the Red Sox at Fenway Park was washed out, CC Sabathia starts tonight against the Rangers instead of working last night. Ivan Nova...

Yankees pummel Red Sox, and I miss all of it!

Squawker Jon and I were meeting up in Battery Park City to see the premiere of Knuckleball! last night, so we missed seeing the Yankees-Red Sox game. To be blunt, when I saw that Freddy Garcia was pitching for the Yanks, I didn't expect much, especially given that it was a FOX broadcast, which the Yanks have a bad record on. Nor did the Yanks get much -- Garcia didn't make...

Yankees may skip Sweaty Freddy on Saturday

In the wake of the rainout in Boston yesterday, Joe Girardi has named his rotation for the rest of the week up until Saturday. What he did was simply push back the starters a day each until then. He hasn’t figured out what he is going to do on Saturday yet when he will have the option of skipping Freddy Garcia and using ace CC Sabathia on normal rest. Ivan Nova pitches on Friday...

Red Sox Live Blog: Felix Doubront Gets Start As Sox Look to Turn Page Against Yankees

8 a.m. ET: The Red Sox take the field Saturday afternoon for a more normal game against the division rival Highlanders -- er, Yankees. With Fenway’s 100th officially over, the Red Sox will once again be aiming to put the past behind and get wins in the present. After an emotional day at Fenway Park on Friday ended on a sour note with the Yankees winning 6-2, the Red Sox (4-9) will...

No Ceremony, Usual Uniforms, Worse Result As Red Sox Blow 9-0 Lead

The Red Sox wasted a fine performance by starting pitcher Felix Doubront as the bullpen allowed 7 runs in the top of the 7th inning and 7 more in the 8th which turned a 9-0 laugher into a 15-9 loss to the Yankees at Fenway Park. Doubront pitched 6 innings, giving up a run on 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 7.The Red Sox chased Yankee starter Freddy Garcia in the 2nd inning...

Yankees Universe trumps Red Sox Nation

DON’T MESS WITH TEX… Don't mess with TEX....just ask any Red Sox fan. What started out as a Yankees blowout in Fenway Park, ended in New York win. Starting pitcher Freddy Garcia was worse than horrible, as he even made Phil Hughes look good. The Red Sox feasted on Garcia’s inability to pitch. Boston had a 9-0 lead come the 5th inning and things were not looking good for...

Red Sox News & Notes - 4/22

Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said after yesterday's 15-9 loss to the New York Yankees that the team had hit rock bottom. Ya think Bobby? Your team had a 9-0 lead and you took your starter Felix Doubront before the start of the 7th inning with a 9-1 lead. You went to your bullpen which has struggled at times this season and after the 7th, your team was winning by...

Ryan Sweeney Bats Second As Red Sox Look to End Slide Against Yankees

Felix Doubront will look to stop the bleeding. The Red Sox enter Saturday's game against the Yankees having lost four in a row, including the series opener on Friday, which was an otherwise joyous occasion at Fenway. Mike Aviles will lead off as the Sox look to get the bats going against Freddy Garcia, who is 9-4 with a 4.45 ERA 21 career games against Boston. Garcia is 3-1 with...

Which Fictional Baseball Pitcher Could Help Red Sox Most?

It's pretty clear that the Red Sox could use some help on the mound. The Sox looked like they were going to bounce back against the Yankees in a big way Saturday thanks to the Felix Doubront's solid start, but the Boston bullpen imploded late. Vicente Padilla, Matt Albers, Franklin Morales and Alfredo Aceves combined for 12 earned runs in a mere three innings of action, clearly...

Please, Oh Please, Let The Red Sox Stink

Never too early to hope.So tonight in Boston, a day after getting punked by the Yankees on their 100th anniver- sary, the Red Sox had vengeance working for them. Freddy Garcia got fingered by the second inning, the home town team was up nine in the sixth inning, and any sensible observer was starting to think about the Sunday game to see who would win the series. But, well, baseball...
