After taking three-of-four from the Chicago Youk's, the Boston Red Sox will finish up their seven-game homestand. Tonight, they'll welcome the Toronto Blue Jays for the first game of a three-game set at historic Fenway Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. and will be broadcast on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the Blue Jays television market, you can watch the game on Rogers SportsNet. If you can't catch the television broadcast, you can always listen to it on the Red Sox radio network. Josh Beckett looks to finally turn the corner in his 16th start of 2012. In his previous 15 starts, Beckett is 5-7 with a 4.44 ERA. He has not faced the Jays in 2012 and was 1-0 with a 0.84 ERA (1 ER/10.2 IP) in two starts in 2011. He's made 16 career starts against the Blue Jays and is 4-6 with a 6.30 ERA. Nine of those starts have come at the Fens where he is 3-4 with a 4.97 ERA. Aaron Laffey makes his fifth start (ninth appearance) of 201...

Josh Beckett Must Avoid First Inning Jams to Find Consistency for Red Sox (Video)

Josh Beckett has had a tough time getting out of the early innings without a deficit plaguing the Red Sox. As one of Boston's front-line starters, Beckett has been relied upon to find a solid rhythm from the get go in each of his starts. But recent history has shown that Becks just can't seem to toss zeros on the scoreboard at a consistent rate -- as both of his past two...

Beckett Early Inning Struggles Bring Sox Another Loss

Josh Beckett took the mound for the Sox and they hoped to build upon the walk off of the night before.  Unfortunately, Beckett continued his first inning struggles and then some and the offense couldn't save him this time.  Beckett gave up two runs in the first inning even if one of them was scored by umpire error.  With one out, Beckett gave up a triple to Rasmus and then...

Josh Beckett Says 'Results Are Not Where You Want Them to Be' After Giving Up Four Runs Early (Video)

It's an understatement to say that Josh Beckett has had his share of troubles in the early going of his starts this season. Heading into Friday night's start against the Blue Jays, he owned a 6.90 ERA in the first two innings of his 15 starts. The early problems continued for the Red Sox right-hander against Toronto, as he gave up two runs in each of the first two innings...

Your Morning Dump... Where the first inning is killing the Sox

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. The Blue Jays scored two first-inning runs, proving to be all they would need on their way to a 6-1 win over the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Josh Beckett has now given up 19 earned runs in the first innings of...

Red Sox News & Notes - 7/21

If Josh Beckett can't figure out how to get through the first inning of a game without giving up any runs, it could turn out to be a long second half of the season for him and the Boston Red Sox. Despite assurances from manager Bobby Valentine that Beckett would get through that first inning without incident, it still happened. In fact, he gave up four runs in the first two...

Red Sox's Beckett gets off to another shaky start

According to conventional wisdom, the Red Sox will go as far as Jon Lester and Josh Beckett take them. On Friday night, it was Beckett's turn to make Sox fans feel like they're embarking on a short trip. With the memories of Cody Ross' dramatic walkoff homer of a night earlier still fresh in their minds, the Red Sox didn't have much time to ride the momentum...

Jason Varitek Thinks Josh Beckett, Jon Lester Should Focus on Positives Amid Struggles to Build Off Them

BOSTON -- Jon Lester and Josh Beckett haven't been delivering the haymakers as Boston's one-two punch in the rotation. Through 35 combined starts -- 19 for Lester and 16 for Beckett -- the pair have combined to tally just 10 wins, five apiece. More than midway through the season, Lester has posted a 4.80 ERA while Beckett's is just over four and a half (4.53). From afar...

Early offense, Laffey's pitching lift Jays past Red Sox

BOSTON -- The Toronto Blue Jays offense set the tone early and starting pitcher Aaron Laffey did the rest. That formula resulted in a 6-1 victory over Josh Beckett and the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park Friday night. Toronto scored twice in the first inning and led 5-0 after five innings. Laffey, the Toronto left-hander, kept the Boston offense quiet. Laffey went seven scoreless...

Blue Jays 6, Red Sox 1

Aaron Laffey pitched seven shutout innings and Colby Rasmus drove in two runs, lifting the Toronto Blue Jays to a 6-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Friday night. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Toronto, and was just its sixth in its last 15 games. Boston, which entered the game leading the majors in runs, had won four of five. Adam Lind added two hits and an...

Recap: Sox hit a bunch of singles, lose 6-1

Another frustrating loss for the Red Sox, who took a solid 6-1 beating from the Blue Jays. The offense simply didn't have it tonight.  They put 8 hits on Jays starter Aaron Laffey, but they were all singles, and only managed to get multiple hits in 2 innings.  The lone run came in the bottom of the 9th once the game was well out of reach.  Middlebrooks and Shoppach were the...

Josh Beckett, Jon Lester Still Hold the Keys to Unlock Red Sox' Playoff Potential

BOSTON -- We'll go as far as (fill in the blank) can take us. That's a phrase sports fans everywhere have become accustomed to hearing, and in Boston it's no different. The Celtics could go as far as Rajon Rondo could take them. The Bruins' Stanley Cup hopes relied heavily on Tim Thomas. The Patriots put their Super Bowl aspirations on the shoulders of Tom Brady and...

Which Red Sox Pitcher Will Finish With the Most Wins This Year?

It's widely agreed that for the Red Sox to make a significant move toward playing in October, they must get quality outings from their starting pitchers. But outside of Felix Doubront, no pitcher in Boston's rotation has more than eight wins, and three of them have losing records. If the Red Sox want to move up in the standings, they'll need their starters to turn it...
