The #Pirates have reinstated RHP A.J. Burnett from the 15-day DL & he will start the game tonight in Pittsburgh vs St. Louis. — Pittsburgh Pirates (@Pirates) April 21, 2012 Kevin Correia is experiencing discomfort in his L side & #Pirates will make corresponding roster move prior to tonights gm. — Pittsburgh Pirates (@Pirates) April 21, 2012 Well, this is certainly unexpected. Burnett got hit around pretty badly in his last rehab start with Indianapolis, but the report was that his velocity was pretty good and his pitches looked fine, so I wouldn't worry about the final result too much. Hopefully this isn't too much of a rush back to the big leagues for him. There's no official word that Correia will go to the disabled list yet (the wording around that injury is awfully vague), but it's already immediately apparently why Neal Huntington felt like the team needed another starter when he went out and got Burnett towards the end of the winter.

A.J. Burnett activated, will make Pirates debut tonight

The #Pirates have reinstated RHP A.J. Burnett from the 15-day DL & he will start the game tonight in Pittsburgh vs St. Louis. — Pittsburgh Pirates (@Pirates) April 21, 2012   Well this is a surprise. Apparently tonight’s scheduled starter, Kevin Correia, is experiencing discomfort in his side and has been scratched. A.J. Burnett, who was scheduled to make his final rehab...

Burnett brilliant, Bucs win

I’ll admit it – I was very worried about A.J. Burnett tonight. He was coming off two terrible rehab starts, had to be somewhat unprepared for the NL-best lineup he was facing, and was generally being overhyped by Pirates fans (I was a fan of the Burnett pick up, but I certainly didn’t expect him to walk in here and become an ace). For at least one night, Burnett DID look like...

Kevin Correia to start Monday

It appears RHP Kevin Correia will start Monday for #Pirates v. #Rockies, weather permitting. — Rob Biertempfel (@BiertempfelTrib) April 22, 2012   Kevin Correia was scratched from his start last night due to soreness in his side. He seems to be ok and will start Monday. Brad Lincoln, who would have started the game had Correia been unavailable, will stay in the bullpen for the time being.

Cardinals can't score on Burnett, Pirates

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- A.J. Burnett pitched three-hit ball for seven innings in his injury-delayed Pittsburgh debut and the Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals 2-0 on Saturday night. Burnett, who missed the first three weeks of the year while recovering from a fractured right orbital bone sustained during a bunting drill in spring training, walked two and struck out seven. Joel Hanrahan...

A.J. Burnett spectacular in Pirates debut

Final: Pirates 2, Cardinals 0 WP: A.J. Burnett (1-0, 0.00 ERA) LP: Jake Westbrook (2-1, 1.31 ERA) SV: Joel Hanrahan (2, 3.60 ERA) It looked like Burnett’s Pirates debut was going to be a disaster. He walked his first batter, then gave up a single, and then walked a batter to load up the bases in the first inning with nobody out. He followed that up, though, with two strikeouts...

Burnett's debut

AJ Burnett's debut is coming a little earlier than anyone expected, but I'm still pretty excited to see what he can do in a Pirate uniform. His rehab starts were a little dicey, sure, but those are about as meaningful as spring training starts, in my eyes, and as long as he was hitting his velocity targets and his other pitches looked OK (which they did, by most accounts...

Cardinals can’t score on Pirates, Burnett

Fresh off the DL, Pittsburgh’s A.J. Burnett shut out the St. Louis Cardinals Saturday night, wasting another solid outing by Jake Westbrook.

2012 Fantasy Baseball Lineup Planner – Week 4

Today was all about pitchers and injuries as several top starters went on the disabled list and starting pitcher A.J. Burnett made his first start of the season for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Burnett went seven shutout innings against the St. Louis Cardinals using just 76 pitches, while allowing three hits and striking out seven. Here is a look at the latest news and notes from...

On Michael Pineda, A.J. Burnett, Pedro Feliciano, and the media's double standard

I just want to, for once, admit that Squawker Jon was totally right on something. Specifically, he called the Michael Pineda injury issue correctly three weeks ago, comparing it to Phil Hughes' tendinitis, and mocking Joe Girardi for calling the diagnosis at the time "great news:"When reporters noted that Hughes was also diagnosed with shoulder tendinitis last year...

Pirates vs. Rockies – Postponed

The Pirates have announced that due to inclement weather today’s game with the Rockies will be played Wednesday as part of a double header. At this rate Kevin Correia will make his next start on two months rest.

Monday night's game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Colorado Rockies has been postponed by inclement weather. The game was called six hours before the scheduled 7:05 p.m. first pitch due to a steady rain scheduled to fall throughout the area until Tuesday morning.
