After Ryan Braun negotiated a deal that suspended him for the remainder of the 2013 season, many around baseball assumed New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez would do something similar. Not so fast. USA Today‘s Bob Nightengale reports that Rodriguez has no intention of negotiating a settlement with Major League Baseball and plans to appeal any suspension that is handed down. Earlier on Tuesday the CBS Evening News’ Jim Axelrod reported that A-Rod was looking to cut a deal with baseball officials, but Nightengale is hearing different things. Axelrod also reported that Rodriguez could be facing a possible lifetime ban for his connection to the Biogenesis anti-aging clinic in Miami. A-Rod’s suspension is expected to be announced some time in the next two to three weeks. Rodriguez is still gathering information and consulting with his legal team, but it appears he is willing to fight any suspension given to him. A-Rod and his lawyers met with MLB investigators for more than four hours in Tampa back on July 12. During that meeting investigators laid out the evidence they had against Rodriguez, including his purchase of performance-enhancing drugs, and further evidence that he had been administered drugs from the Biogenesis clinic. Numerous reports have suggested that Rodriguez’s suspension could be for 100 games, and if that happened he would stand to lose about $14 million in salary. He still has about $98 million left on the 10-year, $275 million contract he signed with the Yankees back in December of 2007. Biogenesis founder Tony Bosch reportedly gave Major League Baseball far more about Rodriguez than he gave them about Braun. If that’s the case you have to believe Rodriguez is in serious trouble.
