The St. Louis Cardinals took not one, but two games on the chin on Tuesday, dropping both games of a double-header with the now first place Pittsburgh Pirates in the NL Central Division. The offense was stagnant once again, managing to push across just one run in 20 innings of play. The Cardianls managed just nine hits on the day over the two games and just one extra base hit, a double off the bat of shorstop Pete Kozma, of all people. The current six-game skid the Cardinals have suffered through has been ugly and a big reason for the offense stalling has been the sudden struggles of Allen Craig. Craig, over the team’s last seven games, is now hitless in his 22 at bats and clearly, his lack of production has not produced positive results for the Cardinals in the win-column.
