By Jessica Grey, AngelsWin.com Staff Writer -  Dear Arte, I’m sure by now you’ve realized that many of the Angels faithful have a problem with the playing of Build Me Up, Buttercup by The Foundations during the seventh inning.  And by “problem” I mean the absolute hatred and revulsion that most hardcore Angels fans feel toward this song. And it’s really a pity that this pretty decent song has been ruined in the minds of so many fans because it is wholly inappropriate for playing it during a baseball game.  While The Foundations (a great band, by the way) surely meant for it to be a sort of fun, poppy tune about loving a girl who just can’t commit, it has become emblematic for fans of having their hopes built up and then dashed by their team. Let’s examine some of the lyrics, shall we? Why do you build me up, Buttercup, baby,  Just to let me down and mess me around? And then worst of all, you never call, baby,  When you say you will, but I love you still. I need yo...

Sitting Josh Hamilton was dumb

One more note on the Angels - Orioles game. As everyone knows, Josh Hamilton has been awful so far with the Angels after signing this huge contract. He is continuing his trend from last year at swinging at everything and is batting like .208 or something. And so his manager sat him yesterday against the Orioles. That was dumb. Why was it dumb when Hamilton just went zero for...

Angels catcher bunts, trips, still gets hit

Let Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Hank Conger serve as an example as to why defensive shifts don't always work.Conger essentially legged out a bunt single in the eighth inning of Saturday's game against the Baltimore Orioles despite tripping while running to first base. No, I'm not kidding.Watch as Conger laid down a bunt toward the left side of the pitcher'...

Angels’ Hank Conger had the most awkwardly hilarious bunt single ever

With his team down two late in their Saturday game against the Orioles, Angels DH/C Hank Conger knew he had to get on base any way possible in order to generate some a scoring chance. With Baltimore playing the shift against the lefty pull hitter, Conger did what most ballplayers should do against the shift but choose not to…he bunted. Beautifully I might add, a for sure single...

Angels' Ryan Madson Begins Bullpen Session

Los Angeles Angels reliever Ryan Madson threw a bullpen session on Saturday, May 4, and so far has not reported any issues. This session was Madson’s first time throwing seriously since his simulated game two weeks ago other than playing catch on May 2. While the session itself went well, manager Mike Scioscia wants to see how his reliever feels on Sunday to better...

Los Angeles Angels Not Living Up To The Hype Again

During this offseason, the biggest free agent on the market Josh Hamilton signed with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Texas Rangers failed to resign him and he decided to sign with their American League West rival the Angels to the tune of 5 yrs/ $125M. So far Hamilton is batting .207 with only 2 long balls and 9 RBI’s, not quite the stat line the Angeles had anticipated...

Might be time for Scioscia to leave

Watching the Angels this season, I keep thinking, "Why does Mike Scioscia need this?" This is his 14th season in Anaheim. His best teams had an aggressive, distinctive style. This one revolves largely around two free-agent sluggers whose worst years are ahead of them, Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton. The Angels no longer run. They no longer play crisp defense. They'...

Angels blow early lead, lose to Orioles 8-4

The game started out so promissing. Jerome Williams gave up a run in the top of the first, and the Angels responded by scoring three in the bottom of the first. Even when the Orioles rallied back on a two-run homerun by JJ Hardy, Trout gave them the lead again one a solo homerun. However, it just wasn't meant to be. The Angels had two opportunities with the bases loaded and got...

Little things hurt Halos, Fall to Orioles 5-4

For years the Angels prided themselves on playing immensely smart baseball. They played aggressively on the basepaths and forced other teams to make mistakes. They played solid defense and got timely hits from unlikely sources. The current roster is the antithesis of those teams. Today the Angels made defensive miscues that led to runs, the baserunners couldn't execute on the...
