In 2004 the Boston Red Sox were lead by a "bunch of idiots" with their fearless leader being a Jesus looking Johnny Damon. While atht curse breaking season is 9 years in the past this years team may have a bullpen of idiots, including Alfredo Aceves (actually an idiot) and Andrew Miller looking like Damon of 2004 or Jesus. Miller is in his 7th year in the major leagues, with his third team. He joined the Red Sox in 2011 and then pitching coach thought he would become a starter. While it hasn't quite panned out that way Miller has become a steady arm in the Sox bullpen. Last season he appeared in 53 games compiling a record of 3-2 and had 13 holds. His ERA was 3.35 in 40.1 innings pitched. When asked about becoming a starter Miller said "It’s not that I don’t want to be a starter, but I found some success last year, which is pretty hard to come by at the major league level. We all look at the guys who are superstars and they make it look like it’s easy and they do ...

Is Jason Varitek the new Derek Zoolander

We all know that Jason Varitek can do just about anything and get away with it. Maybe I overstated that just a little but it's no secret that he's beloved by all in Red Sox Nation and, by extension, New England. Yet it still came as a shock when I saw The Captain strutting his stuff down a fashion runway this week on Boston.com. Varitek was a "model" in Bill...

Lyle Overbay's hitchhiking out of Fort Myers

It's starting to look like Lyle Overbay's days in Fort Myers may be numbered. According to sources Lyle Overbay's agent has been shopping his name around to other MLB teams in hopes of landing him a major league roster spot - you know things aren't looking good when the Yankees don't come calling. Overbay was invited to Red Sox camp as a non-roster player, and...

Daniel Nava’s Hustle, Increased Versatility Make Him Important Piece of Red Sox’ 2013 Bench

Daniel Nava wasn’t even listed in the Red Sox’ media guide coming out of spring training in 2012. That won’t be the case this season, as he is proving his worth down in the Sunshine State. Nava got the Red Sox on the scoreboard in the second inning of Thursday’s game with a sacrifice fly to left-center field following a lengthy at-bat in which he worked the count full. It...

Red Sox Assign Chris Carpenter, Three Other Pitchers to Minor League Camp

The Red Sox continued cutting down their roster on Thursday. The team announced that four pitchers have been assigned to minor league camp. Chris Carpenter, Terry Doyle, Oscar Villarreal and Chris Hernandez — all non-roster invitees to major league camp — were the pitchers reassigned. With the moves, the Red Sox now have 42 players in big league camp, including 32 players from...

Jackie Bradley Jr. Moves to Left Field Midway Through Red Sox-Blue Jays Spring Game

Jackie Bradley Jr. got his first exposure at a new position on Friday. The Red Sox outfielder was moved to left field midway through Friday’s Red Sox-Blue Jays spring training game. The position change came two days after manager John Farrell said he had no plans to play Bradley in left. Farrell downplayed the decision to move Bradley in the seventh inning, saying not to interpret...

Report: Andrew Bailey May Be of Interest to Rangers, Who Have Talked to Red Sox This Spring

Andrew Bailey‘s name is getting tossed around again. The Rangers are looking for bullpen help, and Bailey may be of interest to them, according to MLB.com’s T.R. Sullivan. The Rangers and Red Sox reportedly have spoken this spring, although it’s unclear to what extent. Bailey became the subject of plenty of trade speculation this offseason after manager John Farrell announced...

Red Sox release several minor leaguers on Friday

With spring training games almost coming to an end, the Boston Red Sox have released several minor league players that weren't seen as part of the future or didn't perform well enough to land a spot this season in the Red Sox system. According to Jonathan Singer from SoxProspects.com, Boston released catcher Adalberto Ibarra, right handed pitcher's Sully Bonnelly and...

Phillips gave Victorino interesting gift

Reds second basemen Brandon Phillips and Boston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino recently played alongside each other in the World Baseball Classic for Team USA. Apparently, the two have become pretty good pals after Victorino tweeted out the above picture of a pair of red Christian Louboutin sneakers that Phillips gave him as a gift. As you can see, the size 6.5 shoes actually...

Jackie Bradley Jr.’s Talent Is Obvious, But Sending Him to Minors Remains Red Sox’ Best Option (Podcast)

Jackie Bradley Jr. would be a lock for the Red Sox’ Opening Day roster if the decision was based solely on his spring training performance. The decision is not, however, so the Sox must weigh multiple variables in deciding the young outfielder’s fate. Bradley has been tearing up the Grapefruit League this spring, causing many of the prospect’s supporters to get very vocal....

Red Sox-Pirates Live: Clay Buchholz Takes Hill for Sox in Fort Myers

Phillies Head To Fenway South For Rare Match-Up Against Red Sox In Fort Myers

Photo: Philliedelphia/Frank Klose Fenway South is the state-of-the-art Spring Training facility for the Boston Red Sox. Just outside Fort Myers, the facility is home to Jet Blue Park. 137 miles away from the Phillies' training site, the Phillies rarely visit. Tonight the Phillies make their only trip of the Spring....

Red Sox 6, Phillies 1

Cole Hamels looked fine facing a Red Sox lineup that seemed ready for opening day. John Lackey did equally well against a Phillies side with a few familiar names. Lackey pitched five sharp innings, Hamels threw six good innings and Boston beat Philadelphia 6-1 Thursday night. Hamels, set to start on opening day, gave up one run and four hits. He struck out five and walked two....

Red Sox-Blue Jays Live: Xander Bogaerts, Jackie Bradley Jr. Both in Lineup As Sox Play Blue Jays in Dunedin

11:05 a.m.:  With a day game after a night game, John Farrell looked beyond his starters while filling out Friday’s lineup card. Among those in Boston’s lineup against Toronto are the organization’s top two prospects, Xander Bogaerts and Jackie Bradley Jr. The two are certainly at different points in their development — with Bradley making a bid for a big league roster spot...
