ARLINGTON, Texas As the frenzy over Yu Darvish approaches Beatlemania proportions, don't forget the guy named Elvis. That would be Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus, who had another dazzling game in the field Tuesday in support of Darvish's 2-0 win over the Yankees. Andrus has now gone 50 games without committing an error, extending his club record for errorless games at shortstop. The previous record was 43 by Michael Young in 2006. Against the Yankees on Tuesday, Andrus added to his highlight reel with a spin move on a Russell Martin grounder and a perfect snare of a ball hit deep in the hole by Alex Rodriguez. "Outstanding," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "He played his butt off out there tonight." It wasn't a case of Andrus raising his game to match Darvish's pitching performance, as often happens when a starter is throwing a shutout. It's merely business as usual for Andrus this season. With a putout and five assists Tuesday, Andrus has now handled 77 total chances without an error, the most by any major league shortstop this season. "That's a case of us being in a ballgame, and we can play defense," Washington said. "If there's a play to be made, we're able to make it. That's what you've seen. Elvis went up the middle, made a 360. Everybody made plays out there tonight." Andrus also made plays offensively, despite an 0-for-3 night at the plate. After the Rangers made two quick outs to start the bottom of the third, Andrus drew the first of just two walks by Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda. Andrus then stole second and scored on a Josh Hamilton single for the Rangers' second run. At the end, Andrus flashed his glove again as he helped turn a 4-6-3 double play to give closer Joe Nathan a one-pitch save. Andrus' play in the field drew the attention of Darvish, who has also noticed his teammate's bubbly personality off the field. "My shortstop is a pretty good player," Darvish said, "but he talks a lot." With more performances like Tuesday's, the Rangers will let Andrus do all the talking he wants.
