Peter Bourjos had three hits and three RBIs, Mike Trout and Albert Pujols drove in two runs apiece, and the Los Angeles Angels slowed the worst start in franchise history with an 8-1 victory over Torii Hunter and the Detroit Tigers on Friday night. Pujols had three hits and Brendan Harris added an early RBI double for the Angels, who had a season-high 16 hits. Their 5-10 start still matches the 1961 expansion team's miserable beginning. Tommy Hanson and four relievers combined on a rocky 10-hitter for the beleaguered Angels pitching staff, giving up their only run with two outs in the ninth. Hunter extended his hitting streak to 12 games after receiving a standing ovation in the former Los Angeles outfielder's first night back at Angel Stadium. Detroit has lost two straight.

Angels Classic Rewind | Dateline: April 21st, 2002

APRIL 21, 2002 GAME 18 - ANGELS AT A’S OAKLAND -- The Angels got a solid performance from their starting pitcher, played good defense and had timely hitting. But when their game against the Oakland A's ended, the Angels walked off the field with their heads down. Greg Myers hit a pinch-hit, three-run homer in the ninth inning off Angels closer Troy Percival to lift the...

Los Angeles Angels Place Pitcher Mark Lowe On 15-Day Disabled List

MLB News: The Los Angeles Angels placed pitcher Mark Lowe on the disabled list Saturday as he is suffering from a stiff neck. The 29 year old has spent eight seasons in the majors, tallying a 3.43 earned run average in 39.1 innings pitched last season while striking out 28 hitters. He has struggled in 2013, his first year with the Angels, walking 8 in just 6.1 innings pitched, topping...

By Joe Haakenson, AngelsWin.com Contributor -  APRIL 18, 2002 GAME 15 - ANGELS AT A’S OAKLAND -- This one, they couldn't blame on Tim Salmon. With Salmon on the bench to rest his sagging ego, the Angels' offense struggled against the Oakland A's No. 5 starter and lost, 4-2, before 9,145 at the Oakland Coliseum. Starting pitcher Eric Hiljus beat the Angels...

What’s going on with the Angels?

They were supposed to be contenders last season after signing Albert Pujois to a whooping 250 million dollar contract. When that yield the desired result they went out and spent more money this time in the person of Josh Hamilton. The Angels are 4-10 and rumors abound about there being a change at manager. Manager Mike Scioscia, is feeling the pressure and part of it isn’t his...

Angels place Alberto Callaspo on DL

The Los Angeles Angels have placed third baseman Alberto Callaspo on the 15-day disabled list due to right calf tightness, the team has announced. Callaspo suffered the injury during Thursday night’s contest against the Oakland Athletics. Initially, the Angels only expected him to miss a few days before returning, but he’ll instead require at least two weeks on the...

By Joe Haakenson, AngelsWin.com Contributor -  APRIL 20, 2002 GAME 17 -ANGELS AT A’S OAKLAND -- A couple of Angels could not agree on who was at fault for their 8-7 loss to the Oakland A's Saturday afternoon before 20,253 at the Oakland Coliseum. There was first baseman Scott Spiezio, who made a throwing error in the eighth inning that led to two unearned runs. And...

Bats come out to play as Halos rout Tigers 8-1

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Peter Bourjos had three hits and three RBIs, Mike Trout and Albert Pujols drove in two runs apiece, and the Los Angeles Angels slowed the worst start in franchise history with an 8-1 victory over Torii Hunter and the Detroit Tigers on Friday night. Tony La Russa shoots down Angels rumors as Scioscia's seat gets even hotter

Tony La Russa has said it before and now he has been forced to say it again. He is not coming back to manage. Despite those past proclamations, the future Hall of Fame manager was forced to address rumors of his potential return amid rumors that he might be called upon to replace Mike Scioscia as the skipper of the struggling Angels, via Ken Rosenthal at FoxSports.com: “I’m...

The pressure of expectations

April.  What is it with April?  Is spring training not long enough?  Is it the cold weather away from home?  Is it Mike Scioscia and his coaching staff? Mike Butcher?  Is it team chemistry?  I don’t know, I’m sure you can effectively argue anything at this point.  Bottom line: our halos are playing like poop, and they know they are.  Other than the utter failure of our...

Game 2013.17: Tigers at Angels

After last night’s deflating loss, of a type we’ve seen before this season and would rather not see any more of, the Tigers send out RHP Rick Porcello against Angels RHP Garrett Richards. Porcello missed his last start due to an off-day shuffle type thing; instead, he turned in a perfect two innings in what I think was his first regular-season (at least) bullpen appearance ever...

Offense hits on all cylinders, Angels defeat Tigers

Hey look, an offense!! It's about freakin' time the Angels hit and scored some runs. Add to that some Harry Houdini like pitching and, Voila!, the Halos get a victory. Now let's not get carried away; one win does not a division title make. However, there were a lot of positive signs to take away from tonight's game. Let the good times roll!! Angels 8 Tigers 1...

Tigers-Angels Preview

Torii Hunter couldn't help the Los Angeles Angels advance to the World Series. The veteran outfielder is doing his best to help the defending AL champs get back there. Hunter returns to Anaheim for the first time since signing with the Detroit Tigers on Friday night when Los Angeles tries to avoid the franchise's worst 15-game start. In his first two seasons after spending...

Mercyful Fate; Angels walk off on Tigers 4-3

In a game that looked like it was in the pooper early on the Angels managed to pull a hard, and I mean hard, fought victory. The Angels offense struggled through most of the game, failing to collect crucial hits in 7 of their 8 RISP opportunities. What really gets me excited is how the Angels battled against the such a heralded AL team, a team thought by many to play deep into the...
