Dallas, TX The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have agreed to a one-year deal with veteran right-handed reliever LaTroy Hawkins. The 38-year-old Hawkins appeared in 52 games last season for the National League Central champion Milwaukee Brewers and was 3-1 with a 2.42 earned run average. In 48 13 innings, he allowed 50 hits and only 10 walks with 28 strikeouts. Hawkins gives the Angels more of a veteran presence in the bullpen, where he will be called upon to help mentor young closer Jordan Walden. Over 17 seasons in the majors, he has posted a 63-85 record with 87 saves and a 4.48 ERA in 823 games, which has included 98 starts. He played his first nine seasons in Minnesota and has also had stints with the Cubs, Giants, Rockies, Orioles, Astros and Yankees.

LaTroy Hawkins Is a Survivor

The surprise isn't that LaTroy Hawkins is still pitching in the major leagues. The surprise is that anyone would sign a 39 year old pitcher that isn't left-handed. If reports are correct, Hawkins has signed a one year deal with the Angels for $3 million pending a physical. If the deal becomes finalized it will mean an eighteenth season for Hawkins with his ninth different...

LaTroy Hawkins reportedly headed to Halos

According to Ken Rosenthal, LaTroy Hawkins is close to signing with the Angels. The Angels would be Hawkins'...

Angels Sign LaTroy Hawkins

For one year, dollars currently unknown, but I would expect it to be in the $3-4M range. Last year represented the final year of a two-year deal with the Brewers that was worth $4.25M, but free agent pitching has been bid up considerably with the deals the Dodgers did for Aaron Harang and Chris Capuano. Hawkins had a pretty good season last year, a 3-1 record with a 2.42 ERA, and...

The Angels’ Corner Conundrum

While the Angels’ signings of C.J. Wilson and LaTroy Hawkins didn’t displace anyone, Albert Pujols‘ new deal has created quite a logjam at the corner positions for his new team. And now someone is going to have to go to make it work. There are five spots — first base, designated hitter, left field, right field and one bench spot — for six players: Bobby Abreu, Torii Hunter...

Analyzing smaller deals from meetings

The Angels and Marlins weren't the only teams getting things done at the just-completed Winter Meetings in Dallas, and Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson weren't the only players the Angels acquired. For fans of the other 28 teams and LaTroy Hawkins, here's a summary of some of the less-celebrated player transactions from the last week and a half.
