The Los Angeles Angels made their commitments to second baseman Howie Kendrick and shortstop Erick Aybar, but neither is doing much to justify the team's trust this season. Kendrick was signed to a four-year, $33.5 million contract before the season started. Early in the season, Aybar agreed to a four-year, $35 million contract extension that will kick in next season (after a one-year, $5,075,000 contract for 2012). Those agreements will keep Kendrick and Aybar the Angels' keystone combo at least through the 2015 season. After making the AL All-Star team last year, Kendrick is batting just .263 with a horrible .297 on-base percentage. Both numbers would be career lows. Even more disturbing, Kendrick is just 12-for-54 (.222) with runners in scoring position, including one hitless at-bat in such a situation Friday in the Angels' 5-0 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. That poor situational hitting has been a glaring problem with Kendrick spending most of the past month b...

Los Angeles Angels Prospect Weekly

By Scott Stedman - AngelsWin.com Minor League Reporter Salt Lake Bees - After winning 5 in a row, the Bees have now dropped 4 straight.  In the rotation, the veteran Greg Smith has led the way after a promotion from Double-A Arkansas on May 13th.  On Tuesday, the 28-year-old southpaw tossed 7 beautiful innings, surrendering just 1 earned run while striking out 5.  In...

Pujols Watch: Albert Pujols is having a hot June

After a terrible start with the Angels, Albert Pujols loos to be finally settling in. - (Photo credit: Wikipedia) After such a miserable and well documented start to his first seiason as a member of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, former St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols is having a very hot month of June thus far. Pujols, who has raised his average to .264 on...

Trout, Frieri additions making big difference for Angels

Los Angeles Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto readily admits they were probably his top two concerns "leaving the dock out of spring training." The Angels had no consistent leadoff presence and their bullpen was too thin to back an outstanding starting rotation. Now, however, those two areas have essentially been dealt with -- with the promotion of rookie outfielder...

Ervin Santana Tosses One-Hit Gem

Ervin Santana tossed a one-hit gem against the visiting Diamondbacks on Saturday night, while carrying a perfect game deep into the seventh inning. To say that the performance is a surprise to fantasy owners would be an understatement, as Santana entered the outing with a 3-7 record to go along with a bloated 5.74 ERA. Santana gave up seven earned runs on eight hits in his previous...

Angels' Santana near-perfect against D-backs

ANAHEIM, Calif. Ervin Santana was not perfect Saturday, but he was close enough to leave the Diamondbacks perfectly miserable. Justin Upton had the D-backs only hit, a solid single to center field with two outs in the seventh inning, and the D-backs suffered a 2-0 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on what has become a feast-or-famine road trip to the land of the designated hitter...

The Three Bagger That Changed My Life

My story of Mr. C.J. Wilson and how witnessing one hit changed my life By Lily Deerinwater - AngelsWin.com Feature Writer On Tuesday, June 28, 2011, C.J. Wilson got his first MLB hit, a standup triple, while playing an interleague game against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park. It was the first triple by a Rangers pitcher since...

Haren's night ruined with one bad pitch

ANAHEIM, Calif. The pitcher and the manager agreed on two salient points Friday night. The pitcher felt good, and the pitcher made one critical mistake. Sometimes that's all it takes. Dan Haren knows that as well as anyone. The Angels right-hander threw a pretty good game against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the opener of a three-game series at Angel Stadium. The one pitch...

Haren awaits as Cahill, D-backs visit Angels

The Diamondbacks are facing the Angels in Southern California for the first time in more than a decade. A familiar face will be waiting for them on the mound. Angels starter Dan Haren is set to face the Diamondbacks for the first time since being traded nearly two years ago in Friday night's series opener. Arizona helped Los Angeles (34-30) a bit Thursday with an 11-3 win over...

The Angels keep getting better...

By Jonathan Northrop - AngelsWin.com Columnist We can split up the season in relatively rough, but surprising close, thirds: First 20 games: 6-14 (.300) Next 23 games: 12-11 (.522) Last 21 games: 16-5 (.762) This was of course before last night's 5-0 loss to the Diamondbacks, but it doesn't change the fact that the Angels just keep getting better. They won'...

Santana settle for one-hitter, Angels take win

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Ervin Santana took a perfect game into the seventh inning before finishing with a one-hitter, and Mark Trumbo hit a two-run homer in the Los Angeles Angels' 2-0 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday night. Santana (4-7) bounced back from several rough outings by retiring Arizona's first 20 hitters before Justin Upton's two-out single...

FanGraphs Prospect Stock Watch – 06/15/12

Cam Bedrosian, RHP, Los Angeles Angels Current Level: A 2012 Top 15 Prospects Ranking: 14th Current Value: Underrated The 29th overall selection in the 2010 draft, Bedrosian was one of my favorite prep arms available that year. He made just five appearances, though, before hurting his elbow and undergoing Tommy John surgery. Just 17 when he was draft, the right-hander is still just...

Nearly-perfect outing saves Santana's spot

If Ervin Santana felt concern about losing his job in the Angels' starting rotation, he never let on. He had things under control, he said. He was fine. His pitching lines said otherwise. Santana struggled to control his fastball, and he was giving up runs in bunches: 20 earned runs in 20 13 innings over four starts going into Saturday night's start against the Arizona Diamondbacks...
