TEAMS: Los Angeles Angels, New York Yankees
The Los Angeles Angels have purchased the contract of right-hander David Carpenter from Triple-A Salt Lake and optioned utilityman Alexi Amarista to the minors to help their beleaguered bullpen.
The 24-year-old Carpenter joined the Angels for the start of their three-game series Friday against the New York Yankees. His first appearance will mark his major league debut.
The Angels moved outfielder Jeremy Moore from the 15- to the 60-day disabled list.
Carpenter was promoted to help a bullpen that couldn't hold leads against Minnesota on Wednesday and Thursday, sending the Angels to a 2-4 start.
Top reliever Scott Downs bruised his right ankle Thursday when he was stepped on while covering first base. General manager Jerry Dipoto said Friday that Downs will not have to go on the disabled list.

Pujols' contract ($240M) dwarfs average (.217)
Albert Pujols is learning that hitting a baseball is tougher when the number attached to your name has a dollar sign.
After a weak opening week with the Los Angeles Angels, Pujols has a contract ($240 million) more imposing than his batting average (.217). He had no home runs and just two RBIs going into Friday's game at New York, the Yankees' season opener.

Game Recap 4/14/12 -- That's More Like It -- Angels 7 Yankees 1
Now, wasn't that better? All the Angels needed was a bit of quality pitching, an explosion of power and suddenly all is right with the universe. My hunch is that the Angel players got together and said, "enough is enough. Let's get our act together" and, VOILA!!, it happened. The question is it just a fluke or the beginning of a legitimate winning streak...Angels...
