By Joe Haakenson, AngelsWin.com Contributor -  JUNE 22, 2002-GAME 71 ANGELS AT BREWERS MILWAUKEE -- A masterpiece it wasn't, but Jarrod Washburn's paint-by-numbers pitching performance Saturday night was all about the results. The Angels' starter needed 122 pitches to work his way through six innings, but when he was finished the Milwaukee Brewers had scored only two runs. The Angels offense did the rest, pounding out 16 hits in an 8-2 win before 28,765 at Miller Park. Washburn found himself in trouble in nearly every inning but managed a way to escape any serious trouble by striking batters out. He finished with a career-high 10 strikeouts while winning his seventh consecutive decision. Washburn, who gave up eight hits and walked four, hasn't lost since April 13. In the 12 starts since then, he's 7-0 with a 3.13 ERA. And the Wisconsin native did it with dozens of friends and family attending the game. ``We won and I pitched good enough to win,...

The Hamilton Hex?

There’s no easy way to say what must be said. In situations like this, where no amount of decorum or politeness will mask the sting of the words, it’s best to just go full steam ahead and hope for the best. Josh Hamilton has been a bust. In the field, Josh Hamilton has been nothing short of amazing, making catches that you’d expect to show up Mike Trout’s highlight...

What should the St. Louis Cardinals do with Matt Adams?

In 2011 when the St. Louis Cardinals surprisingly declined to give Albert Pujols a long term contract, one of the main arguments circulating through Cardinal Nation advocating the decision was the presence of a big, young first baseman named Matt Adams who was raking in AA Springfield.  Now, in the second year of the Post-Albert Era, the Cardinals are thriving and Adams has very...

Los Angeles Angels poised for roll after series win vs. Mariners

AP Photo/Chris Carlson The Los Angeles Angels started to show the character of a team many fans expected to see all season with their 3-1 series win over the Seattle Mariners this week. The victories were highlighted by a victory last night, in which the Angels rallied from a seven run deficit to stun the Mariners 10-9. An opportunity presents itself

Normally, I'd be plenty happy with two wins in three games on the road, particularly on the West Coast with AL rules against a decent offense like the Angels with a ton of pitchers on the disabled list. Here's the thing, though: Joe Blanton is starting for the Angels today. Joe Blanton has served up taters like a lunch lady this year. He's got a 5.62 ERA and the Angels...

Angels show no life; lose to Pirates 6-1

It's getting harder and harder to write something original about the Angels these days. It sure looks like the team is starting to realize this won't be there year. Tonight's game was a perfect showcase of a team that just doesn't seem to know what to do. They have struggled all season to get any sort of rhythm and rather than get angry the team seems to be going...
