By Joe Haakenson, AngelsWin.com Contributor -  MAY 23, 2002 OFF DAY - NOTEBOOK ANAHEIM -- Pitcher Scott Schoeneweis enjoyed watching his teammates come back from a 5-0 deficit to beat the Royals, 7-6, on Wednesday night. But there was an element of disappointment, because it was Schoeneweis that put the team in a 5-0 hole. ``We're playing so well as a team, and we're pitching so well as starters,'' Schoeneweis said. ``Pretty much I'm the guy that's not. That's frustrating. I'm not carrying my weight right now.'' Schoeneweis may be right, but he has a tendency to be too hard on himself. While he has had some rough starts, he's also had some good ones. He's given up five runs or more in three of his nine starts. But he's given up three earned runs or fewer in five starts. Right now, it seems Schoeneweis is looking at the bad ones. ``I don't know ... there are things I need to work on,'' he said. ``I'...

Going...Going...Gone: Mike Trout Blasts Longest Home Run of his Career

When you do something crazy like become the youngest player in the history of the American League to hit for the cycle--like Los Angeles Angels slugger Mike Trout--following that up with something comparable is pretty tough to do. Mike Trout did his best to follow up his historic game and didn't do a bad job of it smacking the ball 463 feet making it the longest home run of...

Mike Trout becomes youngest player in MLB history to hit for cycle

Tweet Last season, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim outfielder Mike Trout took the major leagues by storm by putting together one of the best rookie seasons in history, and he appears to be picking up right where he left off. Tuesday night Trout became the youngest player in MLB history to hit for the cycle, [...]

Angels' Ryan Madson experiencing elbow inflammation

Los Angeles Angels right-handed reliever Ryan Madson was once again nearing return, and now we're once again reporting he's suffered a setback. The former closer is facing another "glitch" -- as manager Mike Scioscia puts it -- as he's experiencing inflammation in his throwing elbow, according to William Boor of MLB.com. "Hopefully it's just a...

Mike Trout Proves What We Already Know--He is One Bad Dude

It is not too often that we see a rookie come out and dominate like Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout did last season. You could definitely argue that he deserved the AL MVP last season (but it was hard to deny Miguel Cabrera at the same time). The one thing about coming out of the gate as hard as Trout did last season was that he had to provide fans with Act II this season...

Angels' Jered Weaver could return from DL next week

Mike Trout hit for the cycle last night, the Angels have won three in a row, and Jered Weaver could be returning from the DL next week.  Things are looking up for the Angels.  Of course, the most important part of those three positive signs is the potential return of Jered Weaver.  As long as all goes well with his extended spring training start today, the Angels could activate...

Joe Blanton Earns First Win After 0-7 Start

Los Angeles Angels starter Joe Blanton can sleep a little easier tonight. After an 0-7 start to the season, Blanton picked up his first victory of 2013 in a 5-4 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night.Blanton was solid over 6 1/3 innings, surrendering two runs on seven hits and striking out one batter.Blanton has struggled this season, coming into Thursday’s contest...

The curious case of the Angels poor outfield defensive metrics

The Angels' outfield defense was supposed to be a many splendored thing. With Josh Hamilton supplanting Mark Trumbo in right field, Mike Trout shifting to left and Peter Bourjos returning to a starting role in center, the Halos had arguably the best defensive outfield in all of the land. We even joked how the Halos could play just Trout and Bourjos and still have nary a ball...

Angels Classic Rewind | Dateline: May 22nd, 2002

By Joe Haakenson, AngelsWin.com Contributor -  MAY 22, 2002 GAME 44 - ROYALS AT ANGELS ANAHEIM – It would have been completely understandable had the Angels lost Wednesday night's game to the Kansas City Royals. After all, a team can't win every night.  And besides, they had fallen behind 5-0 to the best pitcher no one's heard of in Royals starter Paul Byrd...

Fan runs onto field at Royals-Angels game, steals rosin bag, makes cop eat dirt (Video)

A fan ran onto the field at Kauffman Stadium during the middle of the eighth inning in a game between the Los Angeles Angels and Kansas City Royals, providing some of the best excitement of the night. Angels reliever Michael Kohn had an 0-2 count on Alcides Escobar in the bottom of the eighth when a fan wearing a Royals jersey ran onto the field. The fan ran right behind the pitching...

How do you solve a problem like Joe Blanton?

How do you solve a problem like Joe Blanton? If you were to ask your typical Angel fan the answer would be to take him out behind one of the Big A dumpsters, shoot him in the head and wait for the garbage truck to come by and pick up the remains. While that solution does have a certain appeal, the health department might lower Angel Stadium's grade, so we'll have to explore...

Angels 5, Royals 2

Mike Trout had his 21st multi-hit game, Jason Vargas pitched into the eighth inning and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Kansas City Royals 5-2 on Friday night to extend their winning streak to six games. Trout had two hits, stole his 11th base and scored two runs, including one on a wild pitch. He is hitting .366 in May. Vargas (4-3) allowed two runs and five hits over 7 1-3 innings...

All Hail Mike Trout

We all know who Bryce Harper is – the guy will literally run into a wall for attention and then blame it on playing stupid hard.  And we all know that Miguel Cabrera is crushing high-AAA pitching on a daily basis.  There is another guy, though, that should be garnering way more attention than he currently is – Mike Trout. Last night, Mike Trout did his best pre-Kim Basinger...

Angels-Royals Preview

An offensive boon has the Los Angeles Angels on their longest winning streak of the season. An old friend is looking to end it. Hot-hitting Mike Trout and the surging Angels face former teammate Ervin Santana in the opener of this four-game series against the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night. Los Angeles (19-27) has been one of baseball's biggest disappointments this season...

Trot Times for May 21, 2013

Time for the trots! Your browser does not support iframes. Home Run of the Day: Mike Trout, Los Angeles Angels - 20.69 seconds [video] It's hard to say this without sounding like a buzzkill, but there's no celebrated feat in baseball more worthless than hitting for the cycle. It's just a neat little accounting oddity. However, I still find it fun to see when...

Blanton Gets First Win; Angels Beat Santana, Royals 5- 4

The Angels reunion with former pitcher Ervin Santana went exactly as planned, as the offense greeted him with four homeruns, including one from his former catcher to win their fifth game in a row.  But, four homers was not tonight’s story, folks.  Joe Blanton got his first win of the season pitching 6 1/3 innings, giving up 2 earned runs before being pulled in favor of...
