Los Angeles Angels catcher Carlos Ramirez and Cincinnati right-hander Vaughn Covington have been suspended 50 games each for second violations for drugs of abuse under baseball's minor league program. The 25-year-old Ramirez was selected from Arizona State in the eighth round of the 2009 draft. He is with Double-A Arkansas of the Texas League, where he hit .204 last year with two homers and 23 RBIs in 275 at-bats. The 19-year-old Covington was 0-2 with 7.88 ERA last year in three starts and 12 relief appearances for the rookie league Reds. He remains on their roster. The suspensions were announced Friday. They raise the total this year under the minor league program to 11, including five for drugs of abuse.

Mark Trumbo Player Profile & Projections

By Robert Cunningham, AngelsWin.com Staff Writer -- 2013 Outlook: Mark Trumbo had a true Jekyll and Hyde season in 2012. The first half he was on fire (.306 BA/.358 OBP/.608 SLG w/a .327 BABIP) and was going toe-to-toe with some of the best players in the game and then, almost inexplicably, he fell off a cliff (.227 BA/.271 OBP/.359 SLG w/a .302 BABIP) after the All-Star Break...

Josh Hamilton Says Comments About Rangers Playing in ‘Football Town’ Have Been ‘Absolute Nightmare’ for Him

Josh Hamilton is headed back to Arlington, Texas, the place where his baseball career came back to life and where he put up some of his biggest numbers. But the slugger, who signed with Los Angeles this offseason, isn’t expecting a warm welcome — and he knows exactly why. Shortly after Hamilton signed with the Angels, he angered much of Texas by calling Dallas “a football town...

Mike Scioscia hurting Angels with his sacrifice bunt-happy ways

Mike Scioscia used to be lauded for his smallball managerial style, but it’s time to recognize that the approach is hurting the team. The Los Angeles Angels have gone 1-2 to start the season. People like to say it’s too early to overreact, but it’s not too early for me to point out some poor decisions by Scioscia. Twice in three games Scioscia has taken away the team’s best...

Josh Hamilton compares himself to Jesus

ARLINGTON, Texas While the boos and jeers rained down on Josh Hamilton during his return to Rangers Ballpark, he got some comforting words in the dugout. "He said, 'Where was Jesus got-after the most? His hometown,'" said the deeply religious Hamilton, who declined to name the source of inspiration. "Baseball wise, this is my hometown." It certainly...

Josh Hamilton Says Wife Called for Security Before Game Against Rangers

ARLINGTON — Los Angeles Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton says his wife had to call for security before his first game against the Texas Rangers because fans of his former team were shouting obscenities and personal insults at his family. Josh Hamilton Gets Treated Just as Expected on Return to Arlington

Josh Hamilton did not have the smoothest end to his time with the Texas Rangers at the end of last season nor when he opted to sign with a division rival over the Rangers. Fans were not too distraught over his departure with the way he played down the stretch, but that does not necessarily mean they wanted him to go. Once he regained control of his demons again he'd be back to...
