Found January 13, 2009 on Vegas Watch:

Angels sign Brian Fuentes for two years, $17.5MM, with $9MM 2011 vesting option based on games finished.
Analysis: Szymborski, Law, Carruth, Alper.
CHONE projection: 62IP, 5HR, 23BB, 63K, 3.48 ERA, 9 RAR.

This is rather obviously a better value than the Wood contract (2/20.5), which we gave a 6.6. Whether that makes it a superior move for the Angels is more debatable. Already having Shields and Arredondo at the back of the pen, LAA didn't necessarily need another stud reliever (never hurts, of course). Considering Burrell went for cheaper than this (still kind of hard to believe), it seems like signing him (or Dunn) may have been a better move. That's a minor complaint though, as it's hard to get past the fact that they spent less than $9MM per year and committed less than two years to a Proven Closer.

How would you rate the Angels' signing of Brian Fuentes?
