The Los Angeles Angels are planning to use ace righthander Jered Weaver on three days rest Sunday to get him an potentially pivotal extra start at the end of the season. The Los Angeles Times reported that the Angels will start Weaver against Baltimore on Sunday. He also is scheduled to start Wednesday vs. Oakland. By starting Weaver on short rest Sunday, the Angels would be setting up their rotation to also have him pitch Sept. 28 vs. Texas, the final day of the regular season. Los Angeles trails first-place Texas by three games in the American League West. Weaver is 16-7 with a 2.44 ERA in 30 starts this season. He has pitched just once on less than four days rest and did not fare well. On Aug. 28 at Texas, Weaver pitched on three days rest and allowed seven runs, eight hits and four walks in six innings of a 9-5 loss.
