Scott Kazmir’s days with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim could be numbered.
According to Baxter Holmes of the Los Angeles Times, general manager Tony Reagins is headed to Salt Lake City to personally check in on Kazmir’s rehab efforts and determine if it’s time to part ways with the left-hander.
Kazmir has made only one start with the Angels this year, lasting just 1.2 innings and allowing five runs on five hits in a loss to the Kansas City Royals on April 3rd. He was placed on the disabled list the next day and eventually sent to extended spring training to work out some mechanics issues. He struggled there and hasn’t done any better in his minor league rehab starts, posting a 15.15 ERA in four appearances with triple-A Salt Lake.
Earlier in the season, some thought that Kazmir’s $14.5 million contract would prevent L.A. from giving up on him, but he has made so little progress that Reagins and company may be willing to eat the value of his contract.
