Let's check in with that Magic Number scoreboard and see where the Cardinals are at heading into September... Following current trending patters gleaned from proprietary Cards Diaspora transitional margin algorithms, it looks like the Target estimate for clinching the NL Central divisional championship is September 19. Oh, and guess who happens to be in town that day? The Chicago ass clowns. Seriously, could 2009 get any better? I did briefly think about the Cubs, though, over the weekend. More specifically about their lack of a World Series win in nearly 102 years. The 00's were pretty much for the cheats. The Red Sox and White Sox both got off long WS droughts by cheating. You can't blame them, either. They got the stink of losing off by juicing up a few key players and skirting the wimpy drug testing policy of MLB. If there was EVER a time that the Cubs just needed to get the weight of this streak off their backs, it was this past decade. But alas, they were the only ones that thought Sosa was crushing HR's naturally, so they were content wasting their opportunity on a stupid HR chase while their cross-town brethren saw this as an opportunity to back door a WS title. Or hell, maybe they did try to cheat to win and they F'd that up too? Either way, for the tenth straight decade, the Cubs are going to NOT win a championship. And worse, from now on their going to have to try and do it legally. What a mess up there. At least they can enjoy the last month of Milton Bradley, I suppose.
