Lyle Overbay is probably throwing a mini-tantrum right now in Ft. Myers as the
Red Sox have completed a trade with the Seattle Mariners for OF/1B Mike Carp.
The trade sends Carp to Boston in exchange for a player to be named later
or cash consideration. However Carp enters the 2013 season with some question
marks about his durability after coming off an injury plagued season.
In 2012 the left-hander hit .213 with six doubles, five homers and 20 RBIs in
59 games, but it's Carp's defensive versatility that Red Sox manager John
Farrell sees as an asset to the team.
"It increases the competition,
particularly at first and left field," Farrell said of the move for Carp.
"We've had a chance to talk to some other guys that might be directly
impacted by that. We've been able to add a talented player to camp here --
