The 2012 Cubs Composite Top 10 Prospect List (version 1.0)

Its time once again to unveil the Cubs Composite Top 10 Prospect List. For those of you who were not around last year, this is where I search the internet to find as many Top 10 Prospect lists for the Cubs as I can. Then, using a formula of 10 points for 1st, 9 points for 2nd, etc. I assign points for each of the lists, add them up and sort the total points from highest to lowest...

Chicago Cubs Preparing to Sign Prince Fielder?

The Chicago Cubs are aware that the time to pounce is right now. Could that mean that they are preparing to sign prize free agent first baseman Prince Fielder? The Cubs are not currently a playoff team. In fact, they really aren’t even all that close to competing within their own division, let alone the rest of the National League. Having finished the 2011 season in fifth place...

Cubs Darvish bid clouded by uncertainty

We don’t know much about the bid the Chicago Cubs submitted for the negotiating rights to Nippon Ham Fighters pitcher Yu Darvish. The only thing anyone seemingly agrees on is that the Cubs submitted a bid. Rumors have swirled around the Internet and Twitter today with commentators ranging from declaring the Cubs the favorites to land the right-hander, to Chicago being outbid...

The Interconnectedness of Carlos Zambrano’s Challenges

by Buddy Biancalana I recently returned from baseball’s Winter Meetings. Reflecting back over the three days, one conversation I had is staying with me.  The conversation of which I intentionally did more listening than speaking, included Carlos Zambrano’s agent Barry Praver, Cub’s VP, Player Personnel, Oneri Fleita and MLB.com writer Carrie Muskat. They were discussing...

Carlos Marmol Player Projection No. 117

Key Stats: Only Craig Kimbrel had more strikeouts among closers last season than Carlos Marmol. Strikeouts are never the first thing that we think about with relief pitchers, but they might as well be when it comes to draft decisions. Saves are a direct reflection on a team's ability to win close games. As we've seen countless times, bundles of saves can happen from guys...

Big Z 'climbing mountains, running on beach' to prepare for Cubs return

How badly does Carlos Zambrano want to remain with the Cubs? So much that the volatile right-hander says he's working diligently on conditioning during the offseason to ensure that he's ready for spring training.

Why a Tainted MVP is Good for Baseball

The impact of Ryan Braun’s positive drug test goes well beyond the city limits of Milwaukee and has the potential to alter how people all over the world view our Nation’s pastime. With this in mind, please indulge me as I veer ever so slightly away from Chicago Cubs baseball and take a trip up I-94... Yu Darvish, Big Z’s Venezuelan Return and Former Red Sox

Someone has put in a winning bid in the contest to post for Yu Darvish from the Nippon Ham Fighters, but was it the Cubs? Also, Carlos Zambrano has a successful return to the Venezuelan Winter Leagues and there is a rumor the Cubs may be interested in a trio of former Red Sox. Carlos Zambrano, making his first start since taking a line drive off his face, did not give up a hit over four shutout innings on Wednesday night for Caribes de Anzoategui.
