One of the biggest reasons for the Diamondbacks turnaround in 2011 was the pitching of their bullpen. One of the worst units in all baseball during the 2010 season, Arizona’s bullpen in 2011 was one of baseball’s best with the additions of J.J. Putz and David Hernandez and the emergence of Bryan Shaw in the final couple months. Despite a great season by the Arizona ‘pen in 2011, that doesn’t mean that Kevin Towers and company won’t be looking to improve the unit going into 2012. Towers has been on record to say that he is looking to add another left-hander to go along with Joe Paterson and possibly another veteran arm for the middle innings if he club doesn’t bring back Brad Ziegler. Even though his name hasn’t been attached to the D’Backs yet, I believe this club should take a long, hard look at Jonathan Broxton. The former Dodgers closer is coming off the worst year of his career and battled a bad shoulder all season long. The two-ti...

The Kansas City Royals have reach agreement on a one-year contract with right-handed reliever Jonathan Broxton. The 27-year-old Broxton was limited to 14 games with the Los Angeles Dodgers last season, going 1-2 with seven saves and a 5.68 ERA. Mets not in on Broxton

Reports indicate that Jonathan Broxton will select his next team within the week, but despite needing a closer the Mets aren't believed to be involved. The Mets never appeared interested in Broxton and probably his injury history is why. I'm glad the Mets are passing on him, Broxton seems to be an injury waiting to happen...

Dodgers not short on options to fill Broxton void

With Jonathan Broxton having departed to Kansas City, the closer shoes left to fill are large in Chavez Ravine, but it's not as if the Dodgers' bullpen is bare when it comes to protecting ninth-inning leads.

They are Casey Blake, Jonathan Broxton, Jon Garland, Hiroki Kuroda, Mike MacDougal, Aaron Miles and Vicente Padilla. Kuroda is the lone ranking player among them, a Type B.

Francoeur and Broxton; Spending on a closer

According to the New York Post, Royals OF Jeff Francoeur helped to recruit Jonathan Broxton during a hunting trip in Georgia. Kernan says the Mets had David Wright make contact with Broxton, who will get a one-year, $4 million deal with incentives that could bring the contract to $5 million. “I’m not much of a hunter, but that hunting trip really worked out well,” Francoeur...
