Last season in Spetember, Jeff Francoeur and the 59-83 traveled to Oakland to take on the 64-77 Athletics. At the time it didn’t seem to be a matchup of much significance, however it marked the first ever “Bacon Tuesday” held by A’s fans at the Oakland Coliseum.
Francoeur was so moved by this monumental moment in meat eating history, that the next day, as he took the field, he tossed a ball with a $100 bill rubber-banded around it to the fans in the right-field bleachers. The ball was inscribed, “Beer or Bacon Dog on me. Jeff Francoeur."
On Tuesday, the A’s fans put on the 2nd annual “Bacon Tuesday,” as the Royals topped the A’s 3-0 in a rain-shortened game. They showed their appreciation for Francoeur’s generosity from last season by dedicated the event to him and presenting him with a T-shirt. Francoeur went 2-3 with a run for the night.
