Found October 07, 2013 on BaySportsNet:
The A’s relied on the main components that have carried them all season long on Monday afternoon: pitching and power. Jarrod Parker followed Sonny Gray’s ‘David versus Goliath’ style performance against former MVP and Cy Young award winner Justin Verlander with an outstanding game of his own, out-pitching 2013 AL ERA champion Anibal Sanchez in the A’s 6-3 victory. The A’s sluggers delivered the horsepower in the Motor City, launching three home runs off of Sanchez, who allowed just nine homers during the course of the entire regular season. Josh Reddick, Brandon Moss, and Seth Smith all connected for long balls that built a lead that Oakland would not relinquish. While Reddick and Moss have been struggling making contact during the first two games of the series, combining to strike out 9 times, the barrel of their bats found the ball in a big way Monday, proving that swinging for the fences does pan out with persistence. Former Triple-A closer Dan Otero showed his grit, pitching two...

Oakland Athletics: Game two recap

Stephen Vogt with walk-off hit The Oakland Athletics were down one going into Saturday’s game and needed to pull out a win so they did not fall deeper into the hole. Pitcher Bartolo Colon allowed three errors and ten hits, the A’s lineup struck out 16 times, and they only were able to get three hits off of Detroit Tiger ace Max Scherzer. For game two, it was time to turn things...

Anibal Sanchez, Detroit Tigers Real Ace, to Start Game 3

The Detroit Tigers will send Anibal Sanchez to the mound in Game 3 of the ALDS against Oakland Athletics hurler Jarrod Parker. Game 1 starter Max Scherzer held the A’s to two runs in seven innings while striking out eleven, and Game 2 starter Justin Verlander went a step further, throwing seven shutout innings with ten strikeouts. So how can Sanchez be the Tigers...

Gray dominates, A's walk-off in Game 2 of ALDS

The A's got the win they desperately needed on Saturday night. After eight and a half scoreless innings Stephen Vogt broke the deadlock with a bases loaded walk-off hit to send the ALDS to Detroit tied at one game apiece. Rookie Sonny Gray looked like a grizzled veteran on Saturday night striking out nine batters over eight innings and holding the Tigers scoreless in his postseason debut.

Athletics Walk Off In Ninth, Even Series With Tigers

OAKLAND, Calif. — In a crucial Game 2 after falling to the Detroit Tigers in Game 1, the Oakland Athletics sent out 23-year old rookie Sonny Gray to the mound against the former AL Cy Young and MVP winner Justin Verlander. Gray did not disappoint, pitching eight shutout innings, and the Athletics walked off in […]

ALDS Game 2: Sonny Gray dominates as A's beat Tigers 1-0

Stephen Vogt hit .252 during the regular season for the Oakland Athletics. But if the A's beat the Tigers in the ALDS and advance through the postseason, it's very possible no A's fan is going to remember that. They could very well speak fondly of the second-year catcher's feats of athleticism in Oakland's Game 2 victory over Detroit. Vogt's bases-loaded...

Tigers-Athletics Game 5 preview

OK, so the Detroit Tigers have the Oakland As right where they want them in their American League division series. Justin Verlander carries into Thursday nights series-deciding game a streak of 16 consecutive scoreless innings against the As in their raucous Oakland Coliseum, and has blanked them in 22 straight innings of ALDS play overall. It was Verlander who beat them in the...

Game 2013. Playoffs 3: Athletics at Tigers

1-1, 10 games to go. Relax. Take a deep breath. The Tigers own home field advantage for the rest of the ALDS. Yes, the hitting is a concern. Dare I say a grave one. But offense can be restored as quickly as it was lost, and this offense is simply too good to disappear forever. As KW pointed out, just look at what the Giants did (or didn’t do) during their first playoff series...

Athletics-Tigers Preview

On another team, he might be an ace. For the Detroit Tigers, Anibal Sanchez is the No. 3 starter - at least in this AL division series against Oakland. Sanchez takes the mound Monday for Game 3 between the Tigers and Athletics after the teams split a pair of pulsating one-run games in Oakland. The A's evened the series Saturday night despite a brilliant performance by Detroit...

A’s slug Tigers, take 2-1 series lead

DETROIT, MI- With the series tied 1-1 going into Game 3, Californians had to adjust for “morning” baseball as the Tigers and A’s got set to play at 1pm EST. Many complained of the television coverage on MLB Network but those who did see the game couldn’t have witnessed anything worse than what TBS was putting out over the weekend. However, on the diamond, it was Anibal Sanchez...

Tigers Bats Ice Cold; Oakland Ties Series with 1-0 Walk Off Win

Oakland, CA — The Oakland Athletics loaded the bases in the 9th inning and Stephen Vogt hit a walk off single to score Yoenis Cespedes to even up their American League Division Series with the Tigers, 1-0. It was a pitching duel from the get go, with Sonny Gray and Justin Verlander becoming the first pair of starting pitchers to each throw 9+ strikeouts and not allow an earned...

A's take 2-1 ALDS lead over Tigers

The Oakland Athletics have beaten Detroit with both pitching and power. And that's left the Tigers on the brink of elimination -- and simmering with frustration. Brandon Moss, Josh Reddick and Seth Smith homered for the Athletics, who chased Anibal Sanchez in the fifth inning Monday and defeated the Tigers 6-3 for a 2-1 AL division series lead. Moss broke a 3-all tie in the...

It’s A Walk-Off: A’s Beat Tigers 1-0
