The first strong trade rumors involving the Oakland A's surfaced Tuesday, with the team connected strongly with the Miami Marlins' Hanley Ramirez. Oakland needs a shortstop. Cliff Pennington is on the disabled list due to a sore right shoulder that has shown no recent improvement, and his .197 average is the second lowest in the league. Ramirez, a three-time All-Star shortstop, is playing third base this year, but most scouts believe he's better at his original position. The A's would be better able than most teams to put together an attractive package of pitchers. Although Jarrod Parker and Tommy Milone would be off limits, Wednesday's starter, A.J. Griffin, is likely to be available, along with Class AAA Sacramento right-hander Dan Straily, who leads all of baseball in strikeouts. Other pitchers potentially available include Brad Peacock, obtained in the Gio Gonzalez deal; Tyson Ross and Graham Godfrey. The A's also have several relievers they might c...

Dodgers get the better end of the Hanley Ramirez deal

The Dodgers did something they haven't done in awhile -- acquire an impact bat. But the fact it was a young impact bat was quite surprising and pleasing. Hanley Ramirez is the Dodgers' newest addition and should be around for quite some time. Look, I know he's not the Ramirez of 2006-09 who hit .316/.387/.531, but he has the potential and ability to be that player...

Dodgers acquire Hanley Ramirez

The Dodgers reportedly pulled the trigger on a major deal that would land them Hanley Ramirez from the Marlins.

Ramirez trade backed Dodgers into a bit of a corner

The Dodgers filled a hole on Wednesday when they acquired Hanley Ramirez, a much needed hitter for the middle of their batting order. But in the short term, the trade created a hole in the pitching staff, as the Dodgers need a starter for Friday's series opener in San Francisco. Nathan Eovaldi was scheduled to pitch against the Giants on Friday, but he was traded to the Marlins...

Miami Marlins Get Little in Return for Hanley Ramirez

I have to hand it to my boss. He apparently keeps the hours of an insomniac. Eric Schmidt broke the Hanley Ramirez story on our network before most people were done dreaming about winning the lottery. Leave it to the boss to show the rest of us how it was done. I had planned on breaking the story to you, but instead I will simply provide some analysis of this transaction...

Hanley can be a superstar in LA

This could be Manny all over again, presumably without the pharmaceutical assistance. OK, Hanley-wood doesn't roll off the tongue like Manny-wood. But the idea behind the Los Angeles Dodgers' stunning trade for infielder Hanley Ramirez early Wednesday morning is pretty much the same. Hanley, 28, is eight years younger than Manny was when the Dodgers acquired Manny in a...

Orioles Miss Out On Hanley Ramirez

what might have been There were rumors that the Baltimore Orioles were among the teams that were interested in trading for Hanley Ramirez, who would have been the perfect player for the team’s current needs.  Unfortunately for O’s fans, the Miami Marlins dealt him to the Los Angeles Dodgers this morning along with Randy Choate for pitcher Nate Eovaldi and a prospect. Eovaldi...

The Los Angeles Dodgers have worked out a multiplayer trade to acquire former NL batting champion Hanley Ramirez from Miami, the second big deal in as many days for the disappointing Marlins. Hanley Ramirez next to go as Miami Marlins dismantle continues

The next piece has fallen. The Miami Marlins have agreed to trade SS/3B Hanley Ramirez and RP Randy Choate to the Los Angeles Dodgers for SP Nathan Eovaldi and RP Scott McGough. This trade was finalized in the early hours Wednesday morning and came to a surprise to me, and many others. The former face of the franchise has been showcasing another down year hitting wise, .248...

Welcome to Hanley-wood: Dodgers acquire Ramirez from Marlins

Considering this was supposed to be a real quiet trade deadline season, things got interesting real quick early Wednesday morning, didn’t they? Ever since the Los Angeles Dodgers were sold to a new ownership group for over $1 billion, new president of baseball operations Stan Kasten has said this team will not be afraid to spend money or make headline grabbing...
