Found May 18, 2013 on Ride The Pine:

Ladies and Gentlemen, YOUR Houston Astros. Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Russell Martin was at bat in the bottom of the ninth, full count, bases loaded and with the score tie.  A weak pop fly to shallow right and the game is going into…oh wait, I forgot, its the Houston Astros. Right fielder Jimmy Paredes and second baseman Jake Elmore collide before either one of them could catch the ball.  Pirates score. Game Over. Astros are now 20 games under .500. Once MLB makes the video embeddable, we will post it here. For now, click here to watch. The post Astros Doing Their Thing And Dropping Fly Balls To Lose appeared first on Ride The Pine.

Astros fielders collide on popup, giving Pirates walk-off win (Video)

The Houston Astros lost another game in an embarrassing fashion that only the Astros could pull off. On Friday night, the Astros were tied at 4-4 with the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. In the bottom of the ninth with two outs, the Pirates loaded the bases, but Astros pitcher Edgar Gonzalez got Pirates batter Russell Martin to pop up to short center field to send the game into...

The Rare ‘Walk-Off Error’ Loss Executed Perfectly By The Astros

The Houston Astros managed to lose a game with the very rare walk-ooo error. The Astros thought they were heading to extra innings as Russell Martin hit a fly ball to shallow right centerfield in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded and two outs. Even Houston reliever Edgar Gonzalez thought it was all over as he skipped off the mound, unfortunately, the Astros are the Astros...

Houston Astros collide, allow winning run to score (GIF)

The Houston Astros are by far the worst team in baseball, so the way they lost Friday night’s game in Pittsburgh was quite fitting. Houston blew a 4-1 and lost 5-4 after two players collided when they were trying to catch a pop up to shallow right that allowed the winning run to score. The Pirates loaded the bases and Russell Martin was facing Edgar Gonzalez with two outs. Martin...

Astros rumors: Considering Jose Altuve extension

Over the past two years, the Houston Astros have been in the business of trading away veteran players in hope of building a future contender for years to come. Jose Altuve is one of the few remaining experienced players on the roster, but Houston isn’t interested in trading him. Instead, general manager Jeff Luhnow told Brian T. Smith of The Houston Chronicle that the Astros...

Pittsburgh Pirates’ Russell Martin is MLB’s Best Catcher

Right now, no catcher in Major League Baseball is playing better at his position than Russell Martin of the Pittsburgh Pirates. After a down year with the New York Yankees–which...The post Pittsburgh Pirates’ Russell Martin is MLB’s Best Catcher appeared first on Bohemian Baseball.

The Astros Just Find Ways to Lose

((HT: ROOT Sports/MLB)) Let's face it... the Houston Astros are just a gawdawful baseball team... The ownership change and the league change are showing a lack of resources either available to the franchise or a lack of resources the ownership group even want to spend in the process... The team has a salary compilation of less than $30-million and rival the Marlins in...

Brett Wallace – Familiar Face In A Familiar Place

Brett Wallace was once thought of as a top prospect within most Major League Baseball circles.  Originally drafted 13th overall in the 2008 MLB Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals, he was the main centerpiece of a trade that brought over current Cardinals leftfielder, Matt Holliday, from the Oakland A’s to St. Louis. Despite being so talented, his stay with the A’s was short-lived...

Erik Bedard returns to PNC Park

On the mound tonight will be the Pirates' two big pitching acquisitions from the winter of 2011/2012. AJ Burnett worked out quite well. Erik Bedard did not. Astro Erik Bedard looks a lot like Pirate Erik Bedard; there are tons of strikeouts, a lot of walks, hits all over the places, and just tons and tons of pitches. In eight appearances and six starts, Bedard's only thrown...

Nolan Ryan's oldest son named Astros president

HOUSTON (AP) -- Reid Ryan choked back tears as he was introduced as president of his beloved Astros, the team he grew up watching in the days when his Hall of Fame father, Nolan Ryan, starred as a pitcher for Houston. "My ties with the Astros go all the way back to 1980 when my dad came over," Reid Ryan said. "Today really is a dream come true because you grow up...

Pirates Notebook: Robbie Grossman Finally Comes To Pittsburgh

Grossman has started 20 of 21 games for Houston since being called up. Outfielder Robbie Grossman will make his PNC Park debut Friday night in the leadoff spot, five years after the Pirates drafted him in the sixth round. He won’t take the field in black and gold, but rather in blue and orange. Almost four years after he signed with the Pirates out of high school for $1 million...

Game 44 Preview: Pirates vs. Astros

Astros (12-31) at Pirates (25-18) 1;35 PM–PNC Park, Pittsburgh MLB.com Gameday TV: ROOT It’s dumb to call this a big game, but the Pirates are somewhat in need of a better effort today. They were lucky to escape with a victory on Friday, couldn’t get going at the plate yesterday, and are now at risk of dropping a home series to the awful Astros. Tonight’s starters… Lucas...

Game 43 Preview: Pirates vs. Astros

This is a chance for the Bucs to put together an extended winning streak – something we haven’t seen for a long time. Tonight’s starters… Erik Bedard (0-2, 6.67) vs. A.J. Burnett...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Houston Astros – Game 44

To say I’m disappointed would be an understatement.  There is a very real argument that the Pirates should be on the verge of being swept by the Astros. It reminds me too much of last year when the Pirates were amazing against the challenging part of their schedule but fell apart once it let up.…

60ft6in is here to help Bob Walk

I got some love for the website on Tuesday night when my Tweet was used on the Pirates broadcast on ROOT Sports.  Announcers Greg Brown and Bob Walk couldn’t figure out why Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke came out of the dugout to talk to the home plate umpire after a strikeout. “It definitely wasn’t a foul ball.  Could that be what they were arguing about?” – Walk ...

Pirates Come Back to Win 5-4 with Alvarez’s Bomb, Martin’s Walkoff

Pedro Alvarez struck with a massive home run into the Allegheny to tie the game. (Photo credit: David Hague) Pedro Alvarez will frustrate the hell out of you. Pedro Alvarez will be unwatchable at the plate. Pedro Alvarez will fly south of the Mendoza Line for a month and a half. Pedro Alvarez will also come up in the 8th inning of a game and tie it with one swing, send a ball 462...
