The bad news for Chicago Cubs fans is that their team is dead last in the NL Central with a 17-32 record, 11 games behind the first place St. Louis Cardinals Cincinnati Reds. The good news for Cubs fans is that they’re not the San Diego Padres. At least not yet. But in another rebuilding year this was expected, so it’s nice to see that some Cubs fans are having fun with what will probably be another losing season. For starters, as you can see in the banner, one Cubs fan was quite ambitious; however, I’m willing to bet that his prediction didn’t come true. Other Cubs fans, though, were so fed up with the losing that they were willing to do some serious cardio. A group of Cubs fans trying to break the famed “Billy Goat Curse” set out from Mesa, Arizona, in February, on a mission to walk to Wrigley Field, and “Crack the Curse.” The five friends and their goat “Wrigley” arrived in Chicago on Memorial Day, but first Matt Gregory, Kyle Townsend, Blake Ferrell, Patrick Fisher and Philip Al...

Amaya-zing Day for Gioskar at Talking Stick

Gioskar Amaya hit for the cycle and drove-in five runs, as the Cubs edged the Rockies 6-5 in Cactus League Extended Spring Training action this morning at Dust Storm Field at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick east of Scottsdale, AZ.  Amaya reached base on a bad-hop single with one out in the top of the 1st inning, and laced a two-run triple in the 3rd, a three-run home run in...

3 Reasons the Chicago Cubs Should Trade Starlin Castro

I’ve been saying for weeks on Twitter that the Chicago Cubs, who will be one of only a handful of MLB teams selling over the next couple of months, should trade Starlin Castro, their young shortstop who has been labeled the franchise player for the time being. But when I look at Castro, I see a great piece for a team rather than the guy that an organization should build around...

A's Rally Dooms Cubs at Fitch Park

Neftali Rosario lined an RBI double into the LF corner and Trey Martin clubbed a two-run double off the CF fence to highlight a four-run Cubs 2nd, but the Athletics rallied to score two in the 6th, two in the 7th, and three in the 8th en route to an 8-6 victory over the Cubs in Cactus League Extended Spring Training action this morning at Fitch Park Field #3 in Mesa, AZ. The defensive...

Cubs slip from last place The Cubs sweep of the Padres puts them one game behind in the race for the #1 pick. The Cubs are tied with the Twins for the second pick. Buried in this Hobbitton Times article about the sweep was a nugget about Ryan Dempster putting a hole in the wall [...]

Steve Clevenger- .500 Hitter

Do you know who Steve Clevenger is?  Well, he's the backup catcher for the Chicago Cubs who is currently batting .500 for the season (13-26).  The 26 year old was drafted in the 7th round in 2006 and has hit for average at every stop along his minor league journey (.309/.795 in 7 minor league seasons).  He made his debut with the Cubbies last year, appearing in 2 games....

The Children Are The Future- Cubs Minor League Update Sponsored by ZigZag

Iowa Josh Vitters lives! Determined to post a totally average OPS at every level of the minors Vitters hit his 6th HR yesterday and now sits with a pedestrian .767 OPS. Much like his .770 OPS of 2011 or his .770 OPS of 2009. Its weird to see a prospect who doesn't improve or get [...]

Alfonso Soriano homered, Jeff Samardzija struck out eight in seven innings and the Chicago Cubs beat the San Diego Padres 5-3 Tuesday. Soriano hit a solo homer to center field in the sixth. After going homerless in his first 30 games this season, Soriano has seven home runs in his last 13 games. Samardzija (5-3) allowed eight hits and was one strikeout from tying his career high...

Cubs fan catches two homers in game

Your browser does not support iframes. Move over, Caleb Lloyd. You may just have some new competition. After going nearly my whole life without seeing someone snag two homers in a single game, I've now seen it done twice thanks to this Cubs fan in the video above. The lucky guy was on the receiving end of a home run hit by San Diego's Carlos Quentin as well...

Cubs preparing for a garage sale- everything most go!!

The Chicago Cubs are obviously not contenders this season and according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, they are letting everybody know that every player, except for Jeff Samardzija is available. “We're starting to get some early calls now,” Theo Epstein (Cubs' president of baseball operations) said. “There might be fewer sellers than usual and a lot more buyers. This...
