Tweet Per a report from the Marietta Daily Journal, the Atlanta Braves will be leaving their home stadium Turner Field following the 2016 season and relocating to a new $672 million venue in Cobb County for 2017 that is projected to seat 42,000. Their lease at Turner Field expires in 2016, and the franchise is opting to build a new stadium rather than renew their lease at Turner Field. The team confirmed the news via their Twitter account Monday: We are excited to announce plans to build a world-class stadium, which will open in 2017 at the NW intersection of I-75/I-285. #Braves — Atlanta Braves (@Braves) November 11, 2013 The Braves have called the 49,000+ capacity Turner Field their home since 1997, when it replaced Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. The Braves won their first game ever played at Turner 5-4 over the Chicago Cubs, with Ted Turner throwing out the first pitch. Turner Field also holds the MLB record for single-playoff game attendance with 54,357 that was set on October 5, 2003, also against the Cubs. Cobb County is located just outside of Atlanta and the new stadium will be approximately 10 miles from Turner Field.
