ST. LOUIS Bidding is nearing an end for the online auction featuring several personal trophies and items from Cardinals Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith. The leading item, his career set of 13 Gold Glove Award trophies, is currently going for a mere 113,932 dollars. Other top items include his World Series rings from the St. Louis Cardinals championships in 2011 and 2006, which are currently going for 29,233 and 21,962 respectively. SCP Auctions announced in October that Smith was putting more than 100 pieces from his personal collection up for auction. Bidding can be made at SCPAuctions.com and ends on Saturday. The only reason given for the auction at the time was that, Smith has decided to offer his collection as part of his estate and family planning. Smiths 1985 Cardinals NL Championship ring is currently going for 19,459 while his Rawlings 50th Anniversary All-Time Gold Glove Team trophy is going for 19.459. Other items in the auction include game-used bats, jerseys, cleats, helmets and other equipment as well as his miniature World Series trophy given to all players on the 1982 Championship team. Several other award plaques, rings and trophies are also up for bid. Said Smith in a statement, "I am honored to share a portion of the memorabilia from my professional baseball career with fans and collectors. My family and I have decided together which of my pieces to keep and which to share. I will forever cherish every experience associated with earning these awards that i shared with the Cardinal Nation and the baseball community. I hope those who are passionate about collecting and preserving such items will gain a similar measure of joy through their ownership." Smith played 18 big league seasons for the Padres and Cardinals and was a 15-time All-Star. He won 13 consecutive Gold Gloves from 1980-92 and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002.
