The Yankees have gotten pretty lucky this preseason as far as injuries go, but today they got their first scare as Alfredo Aceves will have his scheduled appearance tomorrow canceled due to a sore back. He’ll also be getting the next few days off too.
Manager Joe Girardi said that he’ll get the next few days off, but would probably be ready for opening day. It does seem that they could be leaving open the possibility that he won’t be ready for opening day. According to Chad Jennings this problem originally started back in September last season and he even saw a doctor about it in January. Girardi said that this is something the team may have to monitor throughout the season.
This opens the door lefty reliever Boone Logan to make the team. He’s probably in line to get the job if Aceves starts the season on the disabled list, but it’s possible the Yankees could start the season with Phil Hughes in the minors as they won’t need a fifth starter for ...
