Photo via @coryhahn34 Arizona State’s Cory Hahn was one of the top MLB prospects in the country just two short years ago. Tragically, in 2011, Hahn was injured sliding into second base when he collided with the second baseman’s knee, leading to paralysis from the mid-chest down. Hahn has remained upbeat through all of his rehabilitation, and has even returned to school at Arizona State. He serves as an inspiration to many others in recovery, and the Arizona Diamondbacks wanted to honor him in a special way. The Diamondbacks selected Hahn in the 34th round of the MLB draft (Cory wore number 34), but the president of the team, Derrick Hall, insists that this is not for show — he would love for Hahn to come work for the Diamondbacks organization: “It’s not about us. It’s really about Cory and his family. I was able to spend time with them right after the injury in his hospital room and he’s a wonderful kid. We want to make this permanent. We don’t want this to just be about the select...

Brewer, Paterson in, Skaggs, Reynolds out for D-Backs

In a flurry of moves before Monday’s game in Los Angeles, the Diamondbacks optioned starter Tyler Skaggs to Triple-A Reno and placed reliever Matt Reynolds on the disabled list, while recalling pitchers Charles Brewer and Joe Paterson.

Rotation woes continue for Diamondbacks

It’s amazing what half a week does in the world of sports. Just a week ago, the Diamondbacks were entering a high, having taken two of three against the Rangers, including spoiling a fantastic outing by star Yu Darvish and two of three on the road against the Cubs.

Diamondbacks' Brandon McCarthy recovering from seizure

Arizona Diamondbacks right-handed starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy is recovering after suffering a seizure last week at a Phoenix restaurant, according to Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic. McCarthy was out to eat with his wife, Amanda, last Monday night when the incident took place. Piecoro reports that the pitcher slumped over in a booth, at which time his wife climbed...

Classy Move By Arizona Diamondbacks Drafting Cory Hahn

In a baseball era consumed with millionaire egos and performance enhancing drug scandals we often overlook the pureness and good in the sport. Well toady the Arizona Diamondbacks reinforced that belief when they went out and drafted Cory Hahn with the 1020 selection in the amateur draft. This has the makings of the feel good story of the year in one of the most classiest baseball...

Starters' struggles a worrying trend for D-backs

PHOENIX -- Pegged by most -- us included -- as a pitching powerhouse before the season began, the Diamondbacks have been everything but. But as inconsistent and ineffective as the rotation has been at times, the D-backs somehow sit fairly comfortably atop the NL West. Trevor Cahill's eight-run disaster in a 10-5 loss to the Giants on Saturday was the latest example of the...

Arizona Diamondbacks use 34th round pick in MLB draft on ASU’s Cory Hahn

Arizona State outfielder Cory Hahn had his baseball career cut short when he suffered a life altering injury during a 2011 game against New Mexico. Just three games into his first season at ASU, Hahn attempted to steal 2nd base when his head came into contact with Lobos 2nd baseman Kyle Stiner’s knee on the headfirst slide. The collision resulted in a fracture of Hahn’s C5 vertebrae...

Arizona Diamondbacks select paralyzed Arizona State outfielder Cory Hahn in MLB Draft (VIDEO)

YouTube In an act of class on Saturday, the Arizona Diamondbacks selected former Arizona State center fielder Cory Hahn in the 34th round.  Diamondbacks president Derrick Hall read the selection over the humongous conference call that is the Major League Baseball first-year player draft. Hahn wore #34 at ASU which is why the D’Backs staff is holding a 34 jersey and also why the...

D-backs head to L.A. looking to get back on track

On the heels of a series loss to the Giants, the Diamondbacks arrive in L.A. looking to get going back in the right direction. The starting rotation, except young ace Patrick Corbin of course, is scuffling badly and a somewhat streaky offense can only bail it out so much. Injuries remain an issue, with Aaron Hill, Eric Chavez, J.J. Putz and Brandon McCarthy all sidelined. But...

Brewer makes history in D-backs debut

As major league debuts go, Diamondbacks pitcher Charles Brewer's was relatively average. The right-hander threw 1 23 innings of scoreless relief in Los Angeles on Monday and probably benefited from a ridiculous Gerardo Parra catch and a bad call from an umpire that saved a run. Still, Brewer made D-backs history, becoming the first Arizona-born player to be drafted by and debut...

D’Backs Brandon McCarthy, who was struck in head by line drive last year, suffers seizure

Tweet While with the Oakland A’s last season, pitcher Brandon McCarthy experienced an extremely scary moment when, on Sep. 5, a line drive up the middle caught him in the side of the head, seen here: McCarthy needed surgery to prevent intracranial bleeding and the recovery was long, but he’s back in the MLB this [...]

Late rally lifts Diamondbacks over Dodgers

It wasn’t Wade Miley’s best, but he kept the Diamondbacks close as they staged a 9th inning rally to beat the Dodgers 5-4 Monday night.

Dodgers and Diamondbacks Exchange Blows

The Dodgers and Diamondbacks had some very bad blood on Tuesday night, and the young phenom Yaisel Puig was at the center of it. Yasiel Puig was hit in face by a fastball early in the game, and when Greinke was also hit by Ian Kennedy during the seventh inning frustrations boiled over.
