Homer Bailey's breakthrough season culminated in the 15th no-hitter in Cincinnati Reds history. He can follow that big moment with another in the National League playoffs. Bailey can finish a division-series sweep of the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday at Great American Ball Park. It'll be the Texan's first game in his home ballpark since he no-hit the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Sept. 28. When he takes it mound, he'll make history. San Francisco's Matt Cain threw a perfect game during the regular season. It'll be the first time that pitchers with no-hitters during the same season faced each other's teams during a playoff series, according to STATS LLC. There's a lot at stake in Cincinnati. The Reds haven't won a home playoff game in 17 years.

Who feels the worst about the Reds loss?

Last GameHomer Bailey was great in game 3 of the NLDS series with the Giants, but the Reds failed to give him the run support he would have needed for the sweep. They ended up losing in 10 innings, 2-1. Bailey struck out 10 in his 7.0 innings of work. Even though he earned a run thanks to a hit-by-pitch and sac fly, he actually had a no-hitter going in the sixth. He was well short...

Giants-Reds Preview

Homer Bailey played catch in the sun-splashed outfield at Great American Ball Park, his usual routine the day before a start. Nothing different at all, as far as the Texan let on. ''You guys,'' he said afterward, ''it's just another game.'' Uh-uh. Not buying it. Everyone knows the Cincinnati Reds pitcher has a chance to exorcise a lot of bad...

Wednesday news and notes

What a crappy game last night. I am still flabbergasted as to how you allow one hit over 9 innings and lose the game. Homer Bailey could have turned in arguably the best start in Reds playoff history last night and the Reds took home a loss. I blame myself. I didn’t start a playoff talk topic. I will not make that mistake today. The Arizona Fall League began yesterday. Didi Gregorius...

Reds Drop Game 3

The Reds came home riding high on the verge of a sweep over the Giants in the NLDS. The injury to Johnny Cueto added importance to that for the opportunity to rest their rotation. Unfortunately it was not to be. Homer Bailey turned in a solid start but the opportunistic Giants took advantage of some lapses on defense to win 2-1 in ten innings and stave off elimination.

The Reds still lead the series two games to one. The main story of this game was Homer Bailey's dominance for the Reds. In seven innings of work, Bailey allowed...

RLW Episode 28 – Two Down Nine More to Go

How many of you saw the Reds heading out west to start the 2012 Postseason and thought they’d win two games at AT&T Park? I know I didn’t. Especially with the way the offense was performing over the last 3 weeks of the season. Then Johnny Cueto lasts all of 8 pitches in Game 1. Yeah, 8! Still the Reds find themselves with a commanding lead as they head home Tuesday for Game...
