Top 5 Free Agents to Add

1). Adam LaRoche 1B  Was  5 Runs 3 HR 10 RBI .333 AVG

Adam LaRoche 500x407 Balls and Strikes: The Fantasy Baseball Beat

Laroche has usually been prone to slow starts, but this season he looks like he might finally be bucking that trend. Perfect player to put in your utility spot.

2). Fernando Rodney  RP TB  4.1 IP 3 K 1 W 3 SV 0.00 ERA  0.23 WHIP

Rodney is filling in admirably for Kyle Farnsworth as Tampa’s closer, racking up saves and even a win for fantasy owners already. If he keeps this up, he might not give up the closer position when Farnsworth gets back.

3). Zack Cozart  SS CIN 8 R 1 HR 2 RBI .342 AVG

Cozart projects to be the perfect backup or even primary shortstop. His favorable offensive production and home park make him a solid acquistion.

4).  Omar Infante 2B  MIA 9 R 4 HR 6 RBI .343 AVG

Infante is straight beasting this season. Some concerns should be noted about his power, but his average should be legit regardless. Solid second basemen skills set!

5). Ardolis Chapman RP CIN 8 IP 15 K 2 W 0.00 ERA 0.38 WHIP

The guy is almost averaging 2 K’s per inning which is absolutely absurd. He is doing better at picking up strikeouts and keeping a low ERA/WHIP than almost all the starters still on the market.

3 Trends to Watch

1). Of Danny Duffy, Jeff Smaradzija, and Johan Santana which one, if not all of them, will keep up their stellar start.

2). Matt Kemp is on his way to at least half of his 50/50 performance, if he manages to go 50/30 I think his fantasy owners will still be quite happy!

3). Which closer could possibly lose his position first? Hector Santiago of the White Sox, Carlos Marmol of the Cubs,  and Joe Nathan look to have a shaky hold on that position at best.

Ryan Zimmerman's shoulder looked fine signing autographs in his Bentley on Saturday

Here's video (via AllStarsPlus) of Ryan Zimmerman signing autographs for fans after the Nationals walk-off win on Saturday. His shoulder looked good there. Zim, of course, was a late scratch on Saturday because of a sore shoulder.  So, we're trying to take a more positive, panic-free, approach...

Here's Stephen Strasburg shagging fly balls with a catcher's mitt during batting practice.

Is that a catcher's mitt? Stephen Strasburg (seen in these screen caps via MASN/TV) has nothing on Nationals owner Mark Lerner in the "shagging fly balls during BP in a full Nats uni" department. But at least Stras didn't get hit in the nose. Befriend the Nats Enquirer on Facebook. Follow us on Twitter.

Trend or Mirage: Ross Detwiler

A popular preseason dark horse to win one of the National League Wild Card slots was the Washington Nationals. So far, they've look the part, and a big reason for that has been their pitching. Their starters have the best ERA in all of Major League baseball at 1.82, the next closest team is the St. Louis Cardinals at 2.63. Their ERA is supported by the best FIP and xFIP in...

Three Big Ones From Ivan Rodriguez

Ivan Rodriguez is reportedly slated to announce his retirement from baseball today. There will be much written about his impressive career, and much of it will focus on whether or not he will get into the Hall of Fame, even though his numbers pretty obviously warrant it. Personally, I think that leaves aside the whole issue of who such a great player had not one but two lame nicknames...
