With the Baltimore Orioles struggling so mightily, I’m reminded of the movie character that I’d like to be less so than any other: Fredo Corleone. I’m a huge Godfather buff, and like many Italian/Americans I identify most with the character of Michael Corleone. However as I said, there’s no character in a movie that I’d rather be less than his brother Fredo who was famously killed on his brother’s orders while saying Hail Mary in a fishing boat at the end of Godfather II. Nevertheless, the Oriole that in effect shares a name with Fredo (Alfredo Simon) seemed to be the anti-Fredo in tonight’s game. Everything he did was right in a sense during his outing which gave up one run over four hits in seven innings in the Orioles’ 8-2 win over Kansas City.
