TEAMS: Baltimore Orioles
Glen Perkins is a highly valued reliever as the MLB trade deadline fast approaches. (Photo Credit: AP) As Major League Baseball continues its All-Star break, more trade rumors have surfaced of possible players on the move. In addition to the pitchers discussed a few days ago, two other relievers have been linked to the Baltimore Orioles, Jesse Crain of the Chicago White Sox and Glen Perkins of the Minnesota Twins. Crain was placed on the 15-day disabled list back on July 3 when the Orioles were facing the White Sox in Chi town. Crain is expected to resume pitching by the end of next week. The White Sox are expected to be sellers as the July 31 trade deadline approaches. Their current record of 37-55 puts them in the cellar of the American League Central, 14 games behind the division-leading Detroit Tigers. Crain is a nine-year veteran who represented the White Sox in this year’s All-Star Game. In 36.2 innings he has a 0.74 ERA, allowing just three runs in relief. Crain averages more than one strikeout per inning in 2013, with 46 this year. Another team expected to be dealing before the deadline is the Twins who have won just two more games than the White Sox. Perkins was also an All-Star this season and according to ESPN’s Jason Churchill could be an expensive investment for buyers. What makes Perkins so valuable besides being a left-handed reliever with a 0.81 WHIP is his contract. He is signed through 2015 and has an affordable option for 2016. The O’s have likely connected to Perkins because they are in the market for pitching and nobody has been ruled out. But with Brian Mastuz and Troy Patton, two lefties already in the Oriole bullpen, the Orioles probably won’t want to give up the prospects necessary to get Perkins. The MLB trade deadline is less than two weeks away; will be updating regularly to cover all trades and rumors.

Baltimore Orioles trade rumors: More “O” for the O’s?

After a surprising first half of the MLB season, Raul Ibanez could be traded to a team looking to add more offense. Could the Baltimore Orioles be interested? (Photo Credit: Al Bello/Getty Images North America) Trade speculation is one reason the month of July is so much fun for all baseball fans. Most of the Baltimore Orioles trade rumors revolve around possible pitchers that could...

Five MLB prospects who will an impact in the second half

Last season, we saw the Baltimore Orioles call up Manny Machado in August. The top prospect, despite not playing his natural position at shortstop, helped key their playoff run and has joined right up with the rest of the league's top young talent. This season, we're all wondering who could be this year's Machado. That top prospect that will be called up in the second...

Baltimore Orioles to call up Cuban prospect Henry Urrutia

Multiple sources are now reporting that the Baltimore Orioles have promoted OF Henry Urrutia from AAA Norfolk, and he will join the team tomorrow in Texas for their series against the Rangers. Baltimore hopes Urrutia can solve their DH problems for the playoff stretch As I talked about in my first half wrap-up and look ahead, Urrutia’s call-up comes just a few days after O’s...

Baltimore Orioles First Half Review (Pitching)

If the Baltimore Orioles are unable to win the AL East or grab one of the two Wild Card berths, it will likely fall at the feet or more appropriately the arms of their pitchers. The Orioles rank in the bottom of the majors in almost every major pitching statistical category. They are 28th in ERA at 4.39, 26th in opponents batting average, 20th in quality starts, and 21st in WHIP...

Move from Texas to Baltimore big for Chris Davis

The change of scenery was good for Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis, the Texas native who came up through the Rangers organization. Nearly two years after being traded, Davis was back in Texas fresh off his first All-Star game and leading the majors with 37 home runs. Before Friday night's series opener, Davis says it was nice to get away from a place where he was...

Orioles to place Nolan Reimold on DL; call up Henry Urrutia

The Orioles will be making a few roster adjustments to kick off the second half of the regular season. Outfielder/designated hitter Nolan Reimold is expected to be placed on the disabled list in the near future, according to Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun. Encina notes that Reimold’s pending DL stint doesn’t have to do with his lingering hamstring injury that...

Could Chris Davis Match Roger Maris?

Chris Davis, with 37 home runs so far this season, has been generating a lot of buzz lately — both on the field and more recently with some comments he made during the All-Star break. When he was asked about the all-time home run record, Davis said: “In my opinion, 61 is the record, and I think most fans agree with me on that.” I have no idea if most fans agree with him, but...

Power-happy Orioles depend on pitching in 2nd half

Chris Davis and the Baltimore Orioles were a huge hit before the All-Star break. Davis mashed a major-league leading 37 homers, and the Orioles sent the ball over the fence 132 times - 17 more than any other team. Thanks heavily to an offense that ranked third in the majors in scoring, the Orioles hit the break with a 53-43 record and very much in contention to reach the postseason...

Chris Davis quits Twitter amid steroid accusations

Baltimore Orioles first basemen Chris Davis shut down his Twitter account just before the All-Star Game last week after finally deciding enough was enough on the intense scrutiny he has faced in the midst of a terrific individual season.“I gave it about a year. I told [PR director Monica Barlow] I’d try it for a year and see how I felt about it. It wasn’t my cup of tea....

Henry Urrutia Promoted to the Majors

I've been waiting for this day to come, and now it is here. The Orioles have gone ahead and promoted Henry Urrutia from Triple-A Norfolk. The team has needed help at the designated hitter spot all season, and perhaps Urrutia could be a solution. Maybe the Orioles will hit gold with another prospect promoted in the second half. Roch Kubatko from MASN Sports reported...

Chris Davis quit Twitter: ‘It wasn’t my cup of tea’

Unfortunately for Baltimore Orioles slugger Chris Davis, the last time home run records were being chased was during the heart of Major League Baseball’s steroid era. It will be a long time before any player who hits 30-plus home runs before the All-Star break is not accused of using steroids, and Davis has gotten a [...]
