Seems a bit odd that former Met and rookie of the year candidate Brian Bannister had to accept a one year deal in Japan. After being drafted by the Mets in 2003 in the 7th round, Bannister was off to a decent start to his major league career in 2006. He made six starts with a record of 2-1 and an ERA of 4.26 before blowing out his hamstring against the Giants while running the bases. Now many have made Bannister out to be something he wasn't, when he was with the Mets he was constantly pitching out of trouble and was basically getting lucky before his injury. After being traded many Mets fans acted as if he was the key piece that was missing from our rotation which was only fueled by the failure of the player he was traded for (A. Burgos) and his third place finish for Rookie of the year in 2007 with the Royals after going 12-9 with a 3.87 ERA in 26 starts.
