Manny Banuelos is headed to the operating room for Tommy John surgery (Photo Credit: Mike Ashmore) The top pitching prospect in the Yankees’ farm system, Manny Banuelos, will undergo Tommy John surgery performed by Dr. James Andrews on Thursday, states Josh Norris of the Trentonian. The surgery will cause Banuelos to miss the entire 2013 season. Banuelos, who was 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA in six starts with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before being shut down, had complained of elbow soreness in May. Since then, he has made multiple attempts to rehab the injury and return for winter baseball. “Obviously (it was) failed rehab,” Cashman said. “Sometimes you have to drill down, drill down until you get to the bottom of things. … If we knew he’d needed Tommy John a year ago, he’d have had it a year ago.” Cashman remained optimistic that Banuelos would return to an effective level of pitching in 2014.

Yankees: Girardi, Phelps and Ibanez

English: Joe Girardi, manager of the New York Yankees. (Photo credit: Wikipedia) The New York Yankees went into to last night with a one-run lead over the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East. The Yankees fought hard vs. a more complete Red Sox. And after 12-innings, the Bronx Bombers won, in walk-off fashion, 4-3. And Yankee fans owe a lot of that win to the moves made by skipper Joe...

Photo: A Babe Ruth look-a-like like no other

The resemblance is absolutely amazing. Willis “Buster” Gardner of Oberlin, Ohio won a Babe Ruth look-a-like contest as part of the 85th birthday celebration this week for the famous Gallagher’s steakhouse in New York City — a restaurant whose walls are lined with 700 photos of actors, politicians, business leaders and athletes — such as Ruth. Gallagher’s opened in 1927...

Yankees Question of the Day – October 1, 2012

As the Yankees prepare to finish off the 2012 regular season with a home series against their rival Boston Red Sox, Derek Jeter is just 6 hits shy of tying his career season high of 219, which was set in 1999. Entering tonight ballgame sitting at 213 hits, do you think Jeter will end the season: Just short of his career season high of 219 Tied with his career season high of 219...

Red Sox fan reels in HR for Yankees

Jeffrey Maier, he's not. But on fan found himself on the wrong end of a controversial home run call at Yankee Stadium on Monday night. The strange part? That the offender appeared to be a Red Sox fan, helping out the Yankees in their own building. In the second inning of Monday's game, a man wearing a Dustin Pedroia jersey reached over the right-field wall at Yankee Stadium...

Did Sabathia pitch too long Monday?

"One game at a time." It is a mantra of baseball managers, an approach that enables them to focus on the one thing that they can control -- the game in front of them -- without worrying about other concerns. "One game at a time." The Yankees' Joe Girardi -- in a decision that was curious at best, dangerous at worst -- used precisely that rationale for extending...

David Cone calls Ichiro’s bat a ‘chopstick’

David Cone may have some racial sensitivity classes in his future after a comment he made on Tuesday. The former Cy Young Award winner and current Yankees TV analyst for YES Network referred to outfielder Ichiro Suzuki’s bat as a “chopstick” on the telecast during the Yankees-Red Sox game. “Probably a ball, but Suzuki with the chopstick,” Cone said while watching a replay...

Yankees Game 162 Lineup: 10/03/12

In the final regular season home game, the Yankees will send Hiroki Kuroda to the mound tonight against the Boston Red Sox. In his last outing against the Toronto Blue Jays, Kuroda lasted only 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on ten hits while striking out four. Right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka (1-6, 7.68 ERA) is on the mound for the Red Sox. New York Yankees (94-67) Derek Jeter SS...

TV Ratings: Mere 1.1 Overnight For ‘MLB on FOX’ Finale (Also: SEC on CBS, Yankees on YES)

FOX ended regular season Major League Baseball coverage on an extremely low note over the weekend. In other news, SEC coverage suffered a decline on CBS Saturday, and the New York Yankees — of all teams — are on pace for their lowest regular season ratings in ten seasons. MLB Regular Season Ends With Terrible Overnight on FOX: The regular season finale of Major League Baseball...

Mitt Romney invested in the Yankees

From The Daily Kos: [A]ccording to his 2007 financial disclosure forms, Romney—who claims to be a Red Sox fan—was invested in the Yankees Entertainment and Sports Network, the broadcast arm of the New York Yankees corporate empire. As the anchor says at the end of this clip from 2007, "You never know until you look at somebody's stock portfolio what they're thinking."

Red Sox Fail to Help Orioles Against Yankees, End Up as 'Bird Bait' to Raul Ibanez in Extras (Video)

Just when you think they're out, they keep reeling you back in. The Red Sox were poised to help the Orioles grab a share of the American League East with one game left to play, but let a win slip through their fingertips. Raul Ibanez homered off Andrew Bailey in the ninth inning and singled home the winning run off Andrew Miller in the 12th, capping off a wild night in the Bronx...

Pedro Ciriaco Will Need to Take Yankee Killer Reputation to Next Level to Knock New York Out of First Place (Video)

As CC Sabathia takes the mound for the Yankees on Monday night, he might be understandably licking his chops at the prospect of facing this Red Sox lineup. Without the likes of Jacoby Ellsbury or Dustin Pedroia batting for Boston, Sabathia will instead get a chance to face a Red Sox lineup that is a bit, shall we say, lacking in star power. However, there is one possible fly in Sabathia...

Mike Francesa Pwned in Swisher v Teixeira Postseason Debate with Caller

T Minus 2: Yanks Win, O's Lose

It's a 1-game lead with 2 games to play. The Yankees beat a dead Red Sox team last night while the Orioles lost to a Rays team that was on life support. The big joke about the Boston Red Sox these days is that they are actually the Pawtucket Red Sox. Six players in last night's Boston lineup started 2012 in triple A. Meanwhile, the Yankees had their full lineup in the game...
