Found February 19, 2013 on Reds Minor Leagues:
Later today Baseball America will release their Top 100 Prospects in all of baseball list. I will update this post when the list goes live, but until then I will go ahead and throw out my guesses for where I believe that our prospects will wind up on the list: Billy Hamilton: I believe he will fall in the 15-20 range. Robert Stephenson:  I believe he will fall in the 60-65 range. Tony Cingrani: I believe he will fall in the 70-75 range. Daniel Corcino: I believe he will fall in the 75-80 range. Before the list comes out, where do you think the Reds prospects will fall on the list? Other news and notes The Dayton Dragons announced their spring training schedule. While this is specific to that team, it likely looks exactly like all of the other farm teams, except that the A ball teams are home when the AA/AAA teams travel. Earlier this month the Reds signed a RHP out of Australia named Dakota Mitchell. His local newspaper has an article up on him right now. The article talks about h...

What to watch for in Cincinnati Reds spring training: Pitchers Edition

As of today, all players should be in Arizona for spring training on both the position and pitching side of things. The Reds are coming off of an outstanding year that ended poorly and most of that team is returning. Due to that, there probably are only a few jobs up for grabs and it is probably not even open for any current minor leaguers to even take a single one that is open....

Video: Baseball Tonight crew pays a visit to the Reds in camp

The ESPN Baseball Tonight crew made a stop in Goodyear, Ariz. on Tuesday to feature our beloved Redlegs. Watch as Jon Sciambi, Tim Kurkjian, and former Reds third basemen Aaron Boone voice their opinion on a variety of hot topics including Aroldis Chapman's move from the bullpen to the rotation, what newly-acquired outfielder Shin-Soo Choo brings to the team, and the status of...

What kind of season can be expected out of Aroldis Chapman?

Is he a starter? Is he a reliever? Is he even human? These are all questions being asked by fans and media alike this winter when discussing Reds southpaw Aroldis Chapman. Okay, so that last one may be a bit of an exaggeration, but anyone who can throw a 100 MPH fastball with the relative ease as Chapman does warrants such super-human and/or immortal consideration. Enough of...

What kind of season can be expected out of Mat Latos?

The first season for Mat Latos in Cincinnati was by all means a successful one. The right-hander was as good as advertised last season en route to posting a 14-4 record and 3.48 ERA in a career-high 33 starts. There were initial concerns on how Latos would handle the transition from pitching in spacious PETCO Park to the hitter's paradise known as Great American Ball Park...

What to watch for in Cincinnati Reds spring training: Position Players

All players should be in camp at this point. Earlier this week I looked at the pitching side of things, which is a lot more interesting than the position player side of things where there aren’t really any jobs open for the taking as the Reds are only replacing two players from the division winning team from 2012. Shin-Soo Choo will take over in the outfield, whether or not he...

Sam LeCure, the Reds' do-it-all pitcher

GOODYEAR, Ariz. Sam LeCure walks into the clubhouse with a watch cap pulled around his ears, wearing a plaid shirt and a full beard and one wonders, Where did you leave your ax, Mr. Lumberjack? If he walked into Starbucks nobody would guess that he is an integral part of the Cincinnati Reds, a spare part that manager Dusty Baker can plug into any situation. It is an anonymous job...

Athlon tabs Reds as one of MLB's top 10 franchises of last 50 years

If you had to objectively rank all 30 MLB teams based on their performance over the past 50 years, where would the Reds land on that list? Thankfully, our friends over at Athlon Sports already did the dirty work, so all there is left to do for us is to discuss Cincinnati's place on the list. The Reds cracked the top 10, by the way, after claiming the No. 8 spot in the rankings...

Cincinnati Reds: 3 Up and 3 Down

The Cincinnati Reds won 97 games en route to the NL Central crown in 2012. They followed that up by taking a 2 games to none lead over the Giants in the NLDS. However, they wound up on the wrong side of history as San Francisco won 3 straight at the Great American Ballpark and eliminated the Reds. Cincinnati has all the pieces in place to make another run at the NL Central and perhaps...

Reports: Joey Votto expected to play for Team Canada in WBC

Although no official announcement has been made yet, two Canadian media outlets are reporting that Reds All-Star first basemen Joey Votto is likely to represent Team Canada during next month's World Baseball Classic. The Toronto Star published a report late Tuesday with quotes from Canadian baseball director Greg Hamilton, who says he is "confident" that Votto is...

Jim Bowden calls Shin Soo Choo a worthwhile risk for Reds

When the Reds acquired Shin-Shoo Choo from the Indians this offseason many believed Cincinnati basically swapped better offensive production from the leadoff spot in exchange for a shaky, unproven, defensive center fielder. Count former general manager and current ESPN writer Jim Bowden as one of them. The Reds have struggled to find a legitimate leadoff hitter for several years...

Votto’s back

In today’s first live batting practice session, Joey Votto hit a home run off Carlos Contreras. Now that might not seem all that special. It’s only batting practice and it’s only Spring Training, but this is a guy coming off a bad knee injury last season. It was an injury that kept him from hitting a home run since June. And he hit a home run today. Votto took Contreras’...

Pete Rose releases statement pleading for Topps to restore card ommissions

Topps created a buzz last week when the card company announced that it would no longer acknowledge the achievements of Pete Rose on the back of today's baseball cards. On Tuesday, the Cincinnati legend released a series of statements pleading for Topps and Major League Baseball to overturn the decision. "I am not asking for anyone to feel sorry for me. I am asking only...

64 teams in Reds Futures Showcase schedule

Lamont Ford is like a lot of high school coaches. Calls from parents are taken with some hesitation. Twinges of Uh-oh typically course through the body as Hello is vocalized. The baseball coach at North College Hill has had a different experience in recent months, a change he attributes to the Trojans being part of the second annual Reds Futures High School Showcase. The schedule...
