Basking in Giants’ championship run should feel this good

It was just two weeks ago the Giants won the World Series. The parade is long over. The players and coaching staff are enjoying their offseason. The Giants hierarchy convened at the baseball’s annual general manager meetings in Indian Wells this week, as they devised a plan of how they are going to repeat as World Series champs next year. The fans are already in football and basketball mode. Still, it’s hard not to go through a day without thinking about what the Giants accomplished in October. It’s going to take a long time to get over it, and that’s a great thing. The other 31 fanbases would love to experience what Giants fans are going through now. For those that did years ago, they say it’s a great experience. This is the second time in three years that Giants fans celebrate their team winning a championship. That is a great feeling for a fanbase that has endured many heartbreaks prior to 2010, which the best Giants teams never won the big prize. From talking to Giants fans, they realize this is the type of moment they don’t take for granted. They know how hard it is to win championships. They realize it takes good fortune along with skill to win it all. They know the best teams never win it all, and they know from experience after watching them fail in the postseason during the Barry Bonds era. Giants fans are not like Yankees fans, who expect their team to win it all every year. They realize winning championships are not birthrights. They know things don’t work out all the time in the postseason. Based on that, Giants fans are appreciating this good run. They know this is not going to last forever. The Giants can win several more championships in the next few years, but they are not going to win eight championships in this decade. They know baseball is hard for that feat to happen. The players and coaches should enjoy what they accomplished. They won six straight elimination games to be in a position to win a championship. They worked hard in a long season, which features many ups and downs. Everyone contributed in this run. There was so many twists and turns during the postseason run, and that’s what makes this championship run something to enjoy. Teams need to respond to adversity for them to win a championship, and the Giants did that last month. The thought was the Giants were overmatched against the Reds in the Division Series. They certainly played like it by not hitting in the first two games in the Division Series at AT&T Park. The Giants almost were eliminated until they figured out a way to score in extra inning in their Game 3 victory against the Reds. From there, the champs took off by winning the last two games in the Division Series. That helped them advanced to the National League championship series. The Giants had to starve off elimination after being down 3-1 to the Cardinals in the NLCS. Barry Zito pitched the game of his life for him and his team to win Game 5, and the Giants won the final two games at home to advance to the World Series. These are the moments the players, coaches, front office and fans will always remember when they look back at what the Giants accomplished. It’s something that will never be forgotten. When the Giants celebrate their team 10 years from now, the memories of winning a championship will be fresh. Folks will remember it like it was yesterday. Those guys will be anointed forever by the community for what they did. It’s something the players earned for what they did. Good thing for the Giants that they get four months to celebrate the fruits of their labor. Getting over this will be hard for them. There are so many emotions that came from winning a championship. As for Giants fans, they will be misty-eyed once the World Series DVD comes out. It will be like watching the postseason all over again. So many moments will come out easily from watching it. They will ask themselves if this really happened. They are going to reflect how their favorite team won it all. Winning a championship is a cool feeling. It’s something a team and their fanbase should experience in their lifetime. The Giants and their fans are thankful they have moments to enjoy in recent years, and it never gets old.
