The great thing about this game of baseball, we often refer to as ‘The National Pastime” is that on any given day at any given ballpark, you just might witness something historical. The 17,977 that made it out to Sun Life Stadium on Sunday got to witness something that no Marlins team had ever done since the teams inception in 1993, sweep the New York Mets in a 4 game series at home. With a 16-18 last place record and a dismal offense, the Marlins couldn’t have asked for a better time to square off in a 4 game division rival series against the sputtering New York Mets. Following an 8 game winning streak, the Mets have played 4-11 baseball over their last 15 games and a once surprising pitching staff has lost its mojo and fast. During the 4 game sweep, the Marlins plated 26 runs averaging a little over 6.5 runs per game.
