I was all set to get on Terry Collins for the moves he made on Monday afternoon. First, there was leaving Jon Niese in the game to pitch the sixth inning after he had already labored through 105 pitches in five innings on a muggy day. And that one still holds as a bad move as it probably cost the Mets the game. With the score tied 2-2, Niese walked Ty Wigginton before giving up a home run to John Mayberry which was scalded. Maybe Terry got spoiled with the long outings by Santana and Dickey that he wanted to press his luck. He got whammied on that one. The second bad move was having Manny Acosta go anywhere a pitchers mound. With the game still winnable in the ninth with the score 5-4, TC had Acosta come in to pitch the ninth, and he was predictably atrocious. Wigginton, who had already had a million hits during the game (that would be internet hits, more likely ... actual hits: two, with two walks) came up with two men on. Acosta somehow got ahead 0-2 on Wigginton, then gave him...

The Philadelphia Phillies scored two times in the third inning on Memorial Day to snap the New York Mets’ scoreless streak at 28 innings, en route to a 8-4 victory: Jon Niese started for the Mets and struggled to command his off-speed pitches, allowing four runs over five innings of work: The left hander allowed only two hits and tied a season high with seven strikeouts but walked...

Like Terry Collins, you should have faith in Frank Francisco

About three weeks ago, I asked how you felt about Frank Francisco. The comments ranged from “CRINGE” to “nervous” to “HORRIBLE.” Since then he’s pitched in eight games, has an 0-2 record with 5 Saves and an 8.10 ERA. Yet I actually feel better about Francisco now then I did when I wrote the earlier piece. Francisco allowed runs in each of his first three outings...

Turner becomes latest injured Mets shortstop

No manager wants to be stumped by the question, "Who can start at shortstop tomorrow?" However, Terry Collins was in that helpless position after Justin Turner -- who opened the season as an emergency option at the position -- became the latest New York Mets shortstop felled by the injury bug during New York's 8-4 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field on...

The Mets Have Overachieved

Memorial Day is often regarded as the first real check-in date of the regular season. If a team can carry a good start through May, it's no longer a fluke. Therefore it's safe to say that the Mets have been an above average baseball team thus far. However, that's not to say they haven't overachieved a bit.The Mets exit Memorial Day weekend a full 5 games over .500...

#RAdiculous tosses a gem as Mets take 3 of 4 from Padres

The New York Mets defeated the San Diego Padres on Sunday afternoon, improving to six games over .500 for the first time since July 18, 2010 (49-43) in the process. “Starting pitching: That’s what it is, that’s what the game is about,” Mets manager Terry Collins told reporters following the game. “The game’s about having a guy on the bump going out and giving you quality...

Phillies steal game from Mets, 10-6

Mets manager Terry Collins brought in Bobby Parnell to replace Mets’ starter Dillon Gee to face pinch hitter Carlos Ruiz with the Mets ahead 3-1 with two outs. Boom. Carlos Ruiz hit a two-run home run to tie the game, 3-3. Cliff Lee, who worked a nice double play in the 2nd, did not get the win, again, but did not get the loss. That happened because the inning before, Mets’ Lucas...
