Blue Jays 14 - Mets 5
Jonathon Niese did not have it tonight. That was not the problem. It happens to all pitchers. The problem was that Niese did not compete. He allowed Blue Jays batters to dig in and swing for the fences with no fear that the ball was coming inside. Mets Blob is not advocating drilling anyone, but pitching inside is a necessary part of baseball. There was no need for

Injuries to Mike Pelfrey(above) and Miguel Batista have opened the door for Jeremy Hefner to show what he has got.
After a season ending injury to Mike Pelfrey and some early bullpen woes, the Mets reached down to AAA and recalled Jeremy Hefner. Hefner was placed on waivers twice this offseason, and was eventually picked up by the Mets.

Suspended 50 Games
This press release was just issued by Major League Baseball:
New York Mets Minor League second baseman Daniel Muno has received a 50-game suspension after testing positive for a metabolite of Drostanolone. The suspension of Muno, who is currently on the roster of Single-A St. Lucie Mets of the Florida State League, will be effective immediately.
Well how’s that...
The Mets organization plans to call up RHP Jeremy Hefner prior to tonight’s ballgame at Toronto reports Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com.
Though no formal announcement has been officially made, Adam Rubin cites Manny Acosta as the most logical candidate to get the boot, whose ERA leaped to 10.53 after yet another unsightly outing from the 31-year old righty.

I got this question about a week ago and never got a chance to respond. It comes from one of our longtime readers, Hitman, who asks;
During the Mets/Phillies game (05/08), Gary & Keith pointed out the progression of Daniel Murphy’s defense at 2nd base. Has Murphy changed your outlook of him holding it down defensively at 2nd or does he still need to prove something a little...
“The execution was perfect. I had the right guy at the plate. I don’t there is a better execution of fundamentals of the game than Ronny Cedeno. He’s as good as it gets.”
Terry Collins on Cedeno’s fundamentals as reported by Matt Ehalt, ESPNNewYork.com
It is great to hear a manager use the words “execution was perfect” and talk about a player having great execution...
Mets right-hander Miguel Batista left Saturday's start against the Blue Jays after just two innings because of a sore lower back, putting further strain on New York's bullpen.
Batista warmed up to start the third but had to be replaced by right-hander Jeremy Hefner, who was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo before the game.
Batista, 41, complained of groin and hamstring pain...

Last night’s game was a stinker. This afternoon the Mets look to bounce back as they take on the Blue Jays for game two. Anyway, in this afternoon’s game Miguel Batista...
Citi Field, a land of the security officers who take their job way too seriously. I think it's common knowledge that when a sports game is winding down, everybody who had nosebleed seats is going to move to better seats. Not in Citi Field though, security is on their game as they arrested Eduardo Cornejo, a 30-year-old off-duty police officer. Around 9:30 p.m. Cornejo moved...
Its obviously alot more fun when your team wins before a trip North. The Mets head to toronto after beating the Reds this afternoon 9-4. Here are some pics from the hockey themed trip. Starting with DW
This guy with Parnell looks a bit old to be playing.

Once again, sorry for the bad quality image. I took the photo of the SNY broadcast on my TV with my phone. By the way, I’m about to post tons of pictures of the Mets in hockey jerseys. Stay tuned…
The Mets kicked off 2012 interleague play with a blowout loss to the Blue Jays by a final of 14-5. The score was 14-1 before the Mets scored 4 in the 8th, including a 3 run home run from Scott Hairston. As Adam Rubin pointed out earlier, the Mets are now 0-4 when wearing costumes to kick off a road trip.
Jonathan Niese started this game and made it through 3 innings. Niese...
Bud Selig, the commissioner of Major League Baseball, was in New York yesterday to announce that the 2013 MLB All-Star Game will be played at the New York Mets’ home of Citi Field. Along with Selig, there were other appearances. Most notably, New York Mayor Bloomberg appeared with Mets mascot “Mr. Met.” Well, it doesn’t appear that Mayor Bloomberg has much of a sense of humor...
The Mets make the journey up north to America’s Hat to open up an interleague series against the Toronto Blue Jays tonight. The Mets split each of their last two series and finally got firing on all cylinders yesterday as they rolled past the Reds by a score 9-4. The Mets made a comeback bid, went for the kill in the bottom of the eighth and then held it for the ninth. In tonight’s...
After eight innings of futility, the Mets' best chance to beat Brandon Morrow was cut short by a close call on the bases.
Morrow pitched his second shutout in four starts, blanking the Mets on three hits and leading the Toronto Blue Jays over New York 2-0 on Saturday.
''Morrow was sharp tonight,'' New York's Mike Baxter said. ''He made a lot of good...
Sometimes, you just need to tip your cap… Our Mets lost 2-0 across the Northern border to the Jays on Saturday afternoon.
The last recap I penned had to do with Zack Greinke, and this game brought upon another great pitching talent in Brandon Morrow. Sometimes, there is absolutely nothing you can do. You can not win if you can not score. Simple as that.
Brandon Morrow dominated...
