HOUSTON (AP) -- Adrian Beltre homered and drove in two runs and Michael Young broke out of a slump with two hits and an RBI to lift the Texas Rangers to a 4-1 win over the Houston Astros on Friday night. The Rangers were up 3-1 when Beltre belted his eighth homer, a two-out solo shot to left-center in the seventh inning. Beltre put the Rangers on top 1-0 in the third with a sacrifice fly. He also doubled in the fifth and scored on Young's double to make it 3-1. Young entered the game in a 0-for-11 slide and was 5 for 41 with one RBI in his previous nine games. Texas starter Neftali Feliz allowed three hits and a run with five walks in 4 2-3 innings -- his shortest start of the year. He was relieved by Robbie Ross (5-0), who allowed one hit in 2 1-3 innings for the win. Joe Nathan pitched a perfect ninth for his ninth save. Facing a left-handed starter for the seventh time in their last 12 games, the Rangers got to Wandy Rodriguez (3-4) for a season-high 10 hits and three ru...

Rangers' Nathan back in dominant form

ARLINGTON, Texas -- It's not the saves Joe Nathan is getting that's been the big surprise for the Texas closer. It's the velocity that's coming with the pitches from the 37-year-old that been the big revelation. "They might have put one of those bionic things in his arm," Texas manager Ron Washington joked. The velocity is no joking matter for batters...

Washington's choice backfires in Rangers loss

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Rangers manager Ron Washington says he doesn't play the odds. Yet Washington definitely was playing the percentages when he pinch-hit for Mitch Moreland in the seventh inning of Thursday's 5-4 loss to the A's. The left-handed Moreland had hit two home runs in his last two plate appearances, a 368-foot shot the opposite field in the fourth and a...

Rangers hit the road after losing homestand

ARLINGTON, Texas The Texas Rangers had everything going for them when they started their seven game homestand last Friday. Backed by the hottest player in the American League, the Rangers took two of three games from rival Los Angeles in their first matchup of the season in front of packed houses at Rangers Ballpark. Josh Hamilton Showing That I'll Have Another Not Only Triple Crown Threat This Year

Take your pick. While I'll Have Another will now have a shot to win horse racing's first Triple Crown since 1978 after taking home the Preakness on Saturday, Josh Hamilton has a Triple Crown on his mind as well. The Rangers outfielder enters Sunday leading the American League in home runs (18), RBIs (46) and batting average (.384) -- all by a fairly wide margin. It's...

Nolan Ryan discusses Hamilton's future

HOUSTON (AP) -- Texas Rangers star slugger Josh Hamilton insists he isn't worried about his impending free agency. Team president Nolan Ryan certainly is. Hamilton, who is eligible for free agency after this season, says he's not worrying about it "at all." The deeply religious player says he is praying about it though, and that he'll end up where God wants...

Murphy hits inside-the-parker in Rangers’ loss

Rangers pitchers really don’t seem fond of interleague play.  Last night, Neftali Feliz fell flat, and tonight it was Derek Holland’s turn. Holland started out pretty good.  A one-two-three 1st and then just one hit in the 2nd. The offense gave him a little run support to work with in the 3rd.  David Murphy’s inside-the-park, three-run home run was pretty exciting.  Embarrassing...

David Murphy’s First Inside the Park Homerun!

Inside the parker Texas Rangers were leading 1-0 in the third inning Saturday evening, in front of a sellout crowd, when David Murphy showed off his track & field skills. He took an 0-2 pitch from Houston Astros Lucas Harrell, resulting in an inside the park home run. Murphy drove a ball to right center field splitting a diving Jordan Schafer and Justin Maxwell allowing Adrian...

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Kila Ka'aihue had a tiebreaking single in the 10th inning, and the Oakland A's bounced back from a disputed call on squeeze play that cost them the lead to beat the Texas Rangers 5-4 Thursday. Minor Accomplishments for Week 6

A week ago, I updated Jurickson Profar with news that his hitting streak had reached 21 games.  Well, Profar’s streak has now swelled to 29, the longest in pro ball this year.  With the graduations of Bryce Harper, Mike Trout and Matt Moore, Profar takes over as the game’s top prospect and it’s not too soon to start considering how and when he fits in with the Rangers. ...

Gary's Sinise's attempt at a First Pitch Was Terrible

Before Wednesday night's Texas Rangers and Oakland A's game, actor Gary Sinise attempted to throw out the first pitch without much success.  Maybe he thought he was rolling grounders for infield practice?

Rangers-Astros Preview

While Josh Hamilton was given most of Thursday off, the Houston Astros surely would not object if Ron Washington rested his slugger for the whole weekend. Hamilton and the Rangers begin their bid to retain the Silver Boot for the sixth straight year Friday night when they open their three-game interleague series versus the Houston Astros. With Texas (24-15) in the midst of a 20...
