Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Ben Revere made perhaps the best catch so far of the early MLB season on Monday during the second inning of the team’s game against the Cincinnati Reds at the Great American Ball Park. With the game scoreless, Revere traced a liner — although he appears to misjudge the trajectory of the ball for a moment — off the bat of Cincinnati third baseman Todd Frazier into the depths of the alley of right-center field. At the last moment, Revere fully extends himself, dives and snatches the ball out of the air, robbing Frazier of an RBI extra-base hit. Demonstrating great awareness of the situation, Revere then popped-up off the warming track and fired the ball back into the infield, doubling off Jay Bruce at first base, who actually rounded second base and couldn’t make it back, although he really shouldn’t be blamed for the minor baserunning gaffe as he had no reason to expect Revere to come down with the spectacular catch. Via MLB.com: Incredible grab. Anyone who followed the young man’s career patrolling the outfield for the Minnesota Twins has grown accustomed to Revere’s amazing talents on more than one occasion. Unfortunately, Revere’s outfield heroics did little to impact the outcome of the match-up, as the Reds nevertheless managed to put four runs up on the board during the game, beating the visiting Phillies by a score of 4-2.
