With Alex Avila leaving last night’s game against the Boston Red Sox with an injury, the Detroit Tigers have lost another member of their playoff lineup from last year. Despite the team currently looking like the walking wounded though, manager … Continue reading →

Alex Avila left Thursday Night’s game against the Red Sox early after taking a foul ball off his mask. Avila was noticeably shaken, and he suffered a sizable cut on his nose that gushed blood down his face.
The severity of the injury is not known at this time, however, it is possible that Avila may be the latest player to utilize the new seven-day DL for concussion related injuries...
It is never too early to start talking about the trade deadline, especially when we can talk about would-be contenders that might unexpectedly end up being sellers rather than buyers at the deadline. Over the next few weeks, we'll be taking a look at many of these such teams, and there is a surprisingly large amount, and what exactly they might be looking...
DETROIT -- There is an unsettling notion flying around Comerica Park and it goes a little something like this: Quintin Berry's roster spot is still up in the air.
No, it's true. Even after this scalding cup of coffee has managed to inject a little life into the Tigers over the last couple of weeks.
Quintin Berry is fast. He plays his tail off. His swing is improving. Most...
The Detroit Tigers are down to only one position player on their bench for Saturday night's game against the New York Yankees.
Catchers Alex Avila and Gerald Laird are both sitting out with right hamstring tightness, and outfielder Andy Dirks is nursing a problem with his right Achilles tendon. None of those three are available for Saturday's game, but the Tigers haven&...
Justin Verlander can pitch.
He has an MVP and Cy Young in his back pocket to prove it.
But can he hit?
No so much. He's 0-for-20 with 13 strikeouts in the majors.
Verlander is determined to change that when interleague play resumes for the Tigers next weekend in Cinncinati, where he's scheduled to start on June 9. He's working on his hitting and showed signs of coming...
The Tigers got a rare dose of good news Thursday afternoon.
In a season where simply getting over .500 has seemed like a Herculean task, the Tigers found out that No. 2 starter Doug Fister does not have a serious injury to his rib-cage cartilage, and should miss a shorter period of time than he did when he was out from April 7 to May 7 with the same injury.
That's a relief...
Detroit Tigers, 24-27, 5 games behind Chicago, winning streak: 1 game. And it’s Polish-American night.
It was all a terrible misunderstanding.
A lot has been written about the last day of the current installment of the Ryan Raburn Experience, mostly about the surprise appearance of Raburn in the 2nd spot in the order.
Subsequent stories have described this as a last ditch effort...
Max Scherzer is having a Jekyll-and-Hyde-type season. The Detroit Tigers right-hander has the highest strikeout rate (12.0) of any American League starter, but he also has the highest BABIP (.394) and has a 5.67 ERA. According to a major-league scout who has seen him multiple times this season, the numbers aren’t misleading: “He has either been striking guys out or giving up...
DETROIT -- There are home runs and then there are Miguel Cabrera home runs.
Although neither one of Cabrera's two homers proved to be the game-winner in the Detroit Tigers' 4-3 walk-off victory over the New York Yankees Saturday night in front of 44,593 at Comerica Park, they had everyone buzzing after the game.
The first one came when Cabrera led off the fourth inning...
The Detroit Tigers rookie will make his debut on Friday night vs. the Yankees. We revisit an interview he did with us at the start of this season. Continue reading →
DETROIT -- It had to be the biggest out Omir Santos has ever made. Santos lofted a sacrifice fly to right with one out and the bases loaded in the ninth inning Saturday night to give the Detroit Tigers a 4-3 victory over the New York Yankees. Santos was in the lineup only because original starter Alex Avila woke up Saturday morning with hamstring tightness that didn't go...
It certainly was not a pretty win, but was certainly an exciting one for the Detroit Tigers, who took a 4-3 win over the New York Yankees on a game winning sacrifice fly by Omir Santos in the bottom of … Continue reading →
BOSTON -- Max Scherzer came into Thursday night's start at Fenway Park with an 0-2 record and 11.81 ERA against the Red Sox in his young career. Only four games, but back in the first series of the season, Boston got the Detroit Tigers right-hander for seven runs and eight hits in just 2 2/3 innings. That changed Thursday night when Scherzer pitched six innings in helping the...
