In Better Late Than Never, I will be profiling 25 year old Oakland A’s post-hype prospect Chris Carter. In this profile I will give you some background on his career in the minors, his past struggles in the majors and his surprising emergence this year at the major league level as well as my recommendation, fantasy-wise, for the rest of the season in yearly and dynasty/keeper leagues. Unlike another famous Cris Carter, where all he did was catch touchdowns, all this Chris Carter does  is hit home runs. Chris Carter is a 25 year old first basemen for the Oakland Athletics.  He was drafted in the 15th round of the 2005 MLB draft by the Chicago White Sox. During the 2007 offseason Carter was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Carlos Quentin.  Two weeks after he was traded to Arizona, Carter was traded to the Oakland Athletics as part of the package to bring Dan Haren to Arizona. In four previous stints with the A’s prior to this season, Carter was a major disappointment. Once co...

The Oakland Athletics have placed third baseman Brandon Inge on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right shoulder. The A's recalled Josh Donaldson from Triple-A Sacramento and put him in the starting lineup at third base on Tuesday night at Kansas City. Inge might miss just two weeks with shoulder injury

Brandon Inge is one of Oakland's most important contributors as the team has stayed in the American League's surprising wild-card race. However, the A's will be without their third baseman, signed in May after he was released by the Detroit Tigers, for at least the next two weeks. He sprained his right shoulder trying to make a diving play in the sixth inning Saturday...

A's place Inge on DL; recall Donaldson

Third baseman Brandon Inge was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the A's with a sprained right shoulder. Inge dislocated his shoulder during Saturday night's game, but stayed in and hit a go-ahead single in a 9-7 victory over the White Sox. Inge told USA Today that he has dislocated the shoulder "16, 17" times. He popped the shoulder back in Saturday and kept...

A's Braden will have another surgery

A's left-handed starting pitcher Dallas Braden will need another surgery on his throwing shoulder, A's manager Bob Melvin told reporters Tuesdsay. Braden, 29, underwent the first surgery on May 17, 2011, to repair a torn anterior capsule in his left shoulder. But he has not been recovering as quickly as expected and he flew to New York last week for a follow up visit...

Video: Disappearing ball trick

Cliff Pennington of the Oakland A’s hit a ball to the right-center gap at U.S Cellular field that caused some confusion on the part of the umpires calling the game. The line drive came with bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning in a 6-6 game. Pennington laced a drive to past center fielder Alejandro De Aza that appeared to disappear right before our eyes. After closer examination...

A's demote struggling All-Star rookie closer

After a rough few weeks as closer, Oakland rookie Ryan Closer is out of the job, at least for a time. Cook, an All-Star, had blown four saves in his previous eight outings -- and he allowed nine runs in eight innings in that stretch. On Saturday, A's manager Bob Melvin said Cook's next appearance or two will be in less high-pressure situations. Melvin said he would like...

Do You Still Believe In Moneyball?

Moneyball is a ultimately a strategy that was developed by a small market team’s general manager in order to compete large market teams. When Billy Beane sat down and started to think about creative ways to stay competitive with large market teams, he didn’t write the word moneyball on a dry erase board, and tell everyone in the room that this was his new idea. Moneyball was...
