Reds prospect Billy Hamilton has quickly become one of the hottest names among the minor league circuit this year and the main reason can be summed up in one word: SPEED. Hamilton's knack for swiping bases at an alarming rate has many scouts, coaches, and fans alike anxiously awaiting his arrival to the big show, whenever that may be.
The switch-hitting shortstop is currently a member of the Single-A Bakersfield Blaze and is set to appear in this Sunday's MLB Futures Game, which will air on ESPN2 at 5:00pm et. ESPN Insider Keith Law recently published a piece highlighting some of the top players to watch in the showcase game and he tabbed Hamilton with the honor of possessing the best running ability of any player in the game.
Here's what else Law had to say about him:
Best running speed: Billy Hamilton, SS (High Class A Bakersfield)Hamilton has stolen 101 bases already this year in just 80 games, and he's able to do it thanks to 80 raw speed, rivaled b...

AROUND THE WEB
We've reached the halfway point of the 2012 MLB regular season, or at least darn close to it, and that means it's time to hand out some midseason hardware. Tom Verducci of SportsIllustrated.com weighed in with some of his awards picks earlier this week, and a couple of Reds received some ink.
Heading his list of National League MVP contenders were none other...

Good-royo made an appearance for the Reds last night and we finally saw the kind of game that a team like the Reds ought to be playing against a team like the Padres. Final score: Reds 6, Padres 0.
Bronson Arroyo pitched a complete damn game, giving up all zero runs on 3 hits and 1 walk. He struck out 8, which is very unusual for him. He must have ordered what Mat Latos was having...
WAR OF WORDS
Tony La Russa was back on the offensive in his battle with Reds skipper Dusty Baker over the lack of Reds players on the NL All-Star roster, saying he feels "betrayed."
Aaron Harang, once ace of the Reds rotation, pretty much took the Reds to school last night with his new team. The good guys managed only 3 hits and 1 run all evening, but Mike Leake had allowed 3 runs in the bottom of the first alone. He settled down after that, but it wasn’t enough. Final score: Reds 1, Dodgers 4.
Speaking of former Reds’ aces: the Reds...
Last night Mat Latos went out against Edinson Volquez in an obvious opportunity to evaluate whether the Reds or the Padres got the better of the trade for the two pitchers.

Mat Latos seems to be fitting in well with the Cincinnati Reds.
Edinson Volquez is finally receiving the support he hoped for from his San Diego Padres teammates.
Coming off consecutive complete games, Latos looks to help the visiting Reds prevent Volquez and the Padres from extending their season-high winning streak to six games Friday night in a matchup of pitchers traded for each...

Bronson Arroyo pitched a three-hitter, and Ryan Hanigan, Todd Frazier and Zack Cozart homered to give the Cincinnati Reds a 6-0 victory over the San Diego Padres Friday night.

-Tim Gustafson (L 3-3, 6.03) suffered the loss, giving up six earned runs in 5.1 innings. Travis Webb threw two scoreless, while Kanekoa Texeira threw one.
-1B Neftali Soto was 2-4, with a double. CF Joey Gathright and C Corky Miller each doubled as well, and that was it for the Bats.
Despite how well Mat Latos has been pitching with the Reds the off-season trade may go down as one of San Diego’s best if both 1B Yonder Alonso and C Yasmani Grandal stick as regulars to go along with pitchers Edison Volquez and Brad Boxberger. Elsewhere in the system another big month for Tommy Medica in Lake Elsinore and who is Yeison Asencio?
