Ramblings from Henry and Fayette Streets The Week That Was: April 30th – May 7th The B-Mets went 2-5 over the past week, losing both their series in Akron against the Aeros and at home against the Harrisburg Senators.  Three of the five games they lost were only by one run.  The Mets fell below .500 and slid in the standings from third to fourth place.  The big news on the week was the loss of RHP Zack Wheeler, who was placed on the 7-day DL with a right middle fingernail avulsion.  In his place, RHP Gonzalez Germen was called up from St. Lucie and started for the B-Mets on Friday night.  In his AA debut, Germen went six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out nine Harrisburg Senators batters along the way.  In other personnel news, Brad Holt was sent back to Binghamton from the Buffalo Bisons on Monday the 7th.  At weeks end, Jefry Marte leads the team in batting average at .315, and despite his injury Zack Wheeler still has the top ERA amongst B-Mets starter...

Parnell too important to Mets future to trade right now

Over the weekend in an article about American League East bullpen woes, Boston Globe writer Nick Cafardo mentioned that the Mets are getting calls about relief pitcher Bobby Parnell. There’s a lot of demand for bullpen arms due to the abundance of relief pitcher injuries and/or ineffectiveness across the league. Does that mean the Mets should trade a part of their future? So far...

Jenrry Mejia Solid In His First Game Back

Jenrry Mejia pitched solidly today for St. Lucie as they beat Brevard County by the score of 4-2. The Mets’ one-time top prospect tossed five innings and allowed just two runs on four hits and two walks with one strikeout. Mejia’s fastball ranged between 91-95 mph, but more importantly he felt good afterward in what was his first major hurdle toward his return to the majors...

Rookie Jordany Valdespin Belts A Pinch Hit Home Run In Mets 5-2 Comeback Win

Rookie Jordany Valdespin delivers a pinch hit three-run homer to put the Mets up 5-3. Recap Jon Niese had himself another good start despite only going five innings and being plagued with four walks. He gave up two runs in the first two innings, but was able to throw zeroes until he was taken out for a pinch hitter. Niese needs to stay in the game. He goes five innings, allowing...

Prospect Pulse: 20 Hottest Mets Prospects

One thing you will surely notice when reading this is that a few of these guys do not fit the standard definition of “prospect.” There are a handful of veteran players here who are having too good of a season to ignore. So I have stretched the classic definition of prospect to include minor league veterans who are candidates to get a big league call-up. Therefore some of the...

The Sky’s The Limit For Mets’ OF Prospect Travis Taijeron

Today, Mets outfield prospect Travis Taijeron was named the South Atlantic League’s Player of the Week. The Mets’ 18th-round pick last June, Taijeron has been a run-producing machine for the Sand Gnats. The 23-year-old outfielder homered twice, doubled and drove in five runs at Lexington on Monday, went deep again Wednesday, then ripped off three straight three-hit games while extending...

Mets put C Thole on 7-day DL with concussion

The New York Mets have put catcher Josh Thole on the seven-day disabled list because of a concussion. The Mets made the move before Tuesday night's game at Philadelphia and promoted catcher Rob Johnson from Triple-A Buffalo. Thole was elbowed in the head by Ty Wigginton of the Phillies during a play at the plate in the Mets' 5-2 win Monday night. Thole had returned to...

Post Game: Deja Valdespin- Pap Allows Game Winning Blast in 9th

The New York Mets (16-13) defeated the Philadelphia Phillies (14-16) tonight behind the most unlikely of circumstance. In a game in which everything that could have gone wrong, didn't, the Mets overcame a two-run deficit against Roy Halladay, came out on the right side of two key defensive plays and escaped two consecutive jams all before Jordany Valdespin delivered a pinch-hit...

Mets come from behind again, defeat Phillies 7-4

Miguel Batista did little to solve the problem that is Mike Pelfrey’s absence from the rotation, but the Mets overcame a slow start tonight to defeat the Phillies once again 7-4. Trailing 4-1 entering the seventh, New York got to work when last night’s hero Jordany Valdespin got on base with a lead-off walk against Phillies starter Joe Blanton. However, Blanton would get catcher...

Ask Petey: What Will The Mets Look Like In 2017?

What am I doing here, on a grimy pier in lower Manhattan at 5 am? That’s a very good question. Just because I get a cryptic message from someone claiming to be JetsMets13, who says he has proof that a renegade Mets blog is conspiring to sell Mets secrets on the black market. The guy says this “rogue Mets blogger is huge”, and that everybody knows him, and that it could be...

Valdespin's first major-league hit helps Mets beat Phillies

PHILADELPHIA - Jordany Valdespin gave his mom an early Mother's Day present. Valdespin's pinch-hit three-run homer off Jonathan Papelbon in the ninth inning was his first hit in the majors, and it led the New York Mets to a 5-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies Monday night. "I called my mom before the game and said if I get in the game I'd get a hit for...

The New York Minayas?

I don’t know if you noticed (how could you not?) but it seems like every time a young player does something positive, we see discussions here, and even on WFAN yesterday regarding which GM brought that player to the Mets. First, as I’ve said here I think Minaya did a better job than most give him credit for. Second, let us please stop pretending that Alderson has been here for...

Mets come from behind again, top Phillies for fourth straight win

PHILADELPHIA -- The New York Mets, who have made a habit of late-inning heroics so far this season, struck again Tuesday night, scoring all of their runs in the last three frames to beat the last-place Philadelphia Phillies 7-4. The Mets (17-13), who erased a 4-0 deficit, won their fourth straight game and came from behind to earn a victory for the 10th time this season. On Monday...
